Certain Women Called by Christ

Book Description

The scriptural text Luke 8: 1-3 (KJV), which mentions "certain women" who were with Jesus, is the basis of the book Certain Women Called by Christ. In this book, author and teacher Paige Chargois identifies 12 qualities evident in these certain women as revealed by these three verses. Written with powerful words and imagery, this book reminds readers that just as Jesus called His 12 disciples, these certain women also had an invitation from Christ and so do the women of today. Certain Women Called by Christ is a biblical, historical, and faith- and character-nurturing book written out of a desire to see the relationships among women strengthened. Through a thorough analysis of Scripture, the author looks at profiles of both biblical women and contemporary Christ followers who exhibit these 12 essential qualities of servant women. She "calls out" today certain women who are not afraid to make history and pave the way for others as she offers confidence building and assurance to women in the church today. She helps women see that by exhibiting these 12 qualities, they are validated in their call to share in the full ministry of Jesus. Readers will be challenged, like the certain women who walked with Jesus, to be trimmed of excesses, to be whole and not self-limiting, to have an intergenerational ministry, and to manage their households well as they come to know the power of the Lord and set their objective on glorifying Him.

(A)Typical Woman

Book Description

A Woman Through and Through In a culture that can belittle womanhood on the one hand—making it irrelevant—and glorify it on the other—making it everything—it’s hard to know what it really means to be a woman. But when we understand womanhood through the lens of Scripture, we see that we need a bigger category for what God has called “woman.” This book breathes fresh air into our womanhood, reminding us what life in Christ—as a woman—looks like. When we see that we are women in all we do, we can be at peace with how God has created us, recognizing womanhood as an essential part of Christ’s mission and work.

Woman to Woman

Book Description

Many Christian women have come to understand our biblical mandate for life-on-life discipleship of someone younger in the faith. Most women embrace this role, though, with at least some uncertainty about their ability to carry such a great responsibility. A biblically-based personal study, Woman to Woman: Preparing Yourself to Mentor will guide a woman step-by-step through the process of readying herself for such a relationship. This study will help the mentor-to-be to evaluate her own gifts and how they can be used in mentoring, to examine the different possible roles of a mentor, to develop a plan for starting off the mentoring relationship in a positive way and to avoid the dangers that befall mentoring relationships.

Women In Christ

Book Description

Brown has written ‘Women in Christ’ drawing from almost 30 years’ ministry experience as a world renowned Bible teacher and preacher of God’s word. The book adds a much needed voice to the oft debated, and sometimes divisive, topic of women disciples of Christ being recognised and received as legitimate Kingdom leaders in the church and the marketplace globally today. It is a book for every Christian believer and leader! The book flows from the author’s Christological doctrinal position, and is packed with Scriptural references, encouraging stories from real-life situations, and Biblical exegesis and apologetics. It will benefit both male and female readers to see this truth: that one’s physical gender is not what defines our capacity to serve Christ, since our spiritual identity as sons of God positions the born again believer as a bona fide disciple of Christ, with the mission and mandate to know Christ and to make Christ known. Whether your agree or disagree with Brown’s doctrinal position, this book cannot fail to make a transformative impact on the reader. Interestingly, it presents a Christian Egalitarian concept of women as leaders in church and society, whilst at the same time not denigrating Christian Complementarian beliefs concerning family. It gives a new breath of hermeneutical interpretation on some challenging portions of Scripture as they pertain to women in leadership. Do not read this book unless you are ready for a radical encounter with the truth of God’s word concerning women in Christ! Not recommended for those with an extreme misogynistic view against women.

Junia

Book Description

The name "Junia" appears in Romans 16:7, and Paul identifies her (along with Andronicus) as "prominent among the apostles." In this important work, Epp investigates the mysterious disappearance of Junia from the traditions of the church. Because later theologians and scribes could not believe (or wanted to suppress) that Paul had numbered a woman among the earliest churches' apostles, Junia's name was changed in Romans to a masculine form. Despite the fact that the earliest churches met in homes and that other women were clearly leaders in the churches (e.g., Prisca and Lydia), calling Junia an apostle seemed too much for the tradition. Epp tracks how this happened in New Testament manuscripts, scribal traditions, and translations of the Bible. In this thoroughgoing study, Epp restores Junia to her rightful place.

Morning and Evening Meditations from the Word of God

Book Description

There are many devotional books available containing brief, daily inspirations that benefit all who read them. This book is different in two respects. The first is obvious: it contains two readings per day—732 in all. The second, more important difference is that the author wanted to do more than offer inspiration; this would make this book no different than so many others. The messages in the book are study sketches in that the content is not only inspirational, but also educational, challenging, and encouraging. Most of these writings were based on author Michael J. Akers’s teaching of adult Bible studies for more than thirty years and learning what really brought adults to want to deepen their knowledge and application of the Word of God.

God's Arrow Against Atheists

Book Description

In this book Smith argues that Christianity is the only true religion. This particular book was one of Smith’s most popular works, and went through dozens of editions and reprints during his lifetime (his sermons in general had gone through eighty–five editions by 1620). "God’s Arrow" focuses on utterly destroying paganism (the atheism of the natural man), Islam (the religion of carnality) and Roman Catholicism (the religion of the deceived, apostate and Antichristian establishment posing as God’s authority in the world), with an exhortation to unite Christ’s church in the truth rather than divide it. Smith’s arguments are lucid and biblically powerful, and a sanctifying treat to the Christian’s mind and soul. He quickly demonstrates the absurdity of that which is “not the true religion” of Jesus Christ and concretely sets down the right religion contained in Holy Scripture. This is a classic work that should not be missed! This is not a scan or facsimile, and contains an active table of contents for electronic versions.
