Challenging the Unchallengeable

Book Description

John D. Frey leads readers on a fascinating journey in this book that seeks to prove that Albert Einsteins theory of special relativity is all wrong. He begins by sharing an overview of special relativity, including its history, principles, and how these principles bring about time dilation and length contraction. The author examines six experiments that show that the theorys claims and principles can disqualify themselves by producing impossible, opposing results. He also explains how experiments that supposedly have verified special relativity and its claims actually help prove that the theory is flawed. Behind this book was over 10 years of research by the author concerning every aspect of special relativity. In addition, the author consulted with over 30 professors of physics concerning his ideas and experiments and their feedback was extremely important in the creation of this book. Written in everyday, nontechnical language, the book will make sense to those without a background in physics. No matter what you do for a living, you can participate in a vital discussion about our universe and join the author in Challenging the Unchallengeable.

Lost in the Church

Book Description

Lost in the Church There are churches and there are churches. This is a book thai you read and you will be able to give a good assessment and evaluation of the scriptural demands of the church. This will let you give a genuine score of the church you attend. What are being taught and done in the church points to the orientation of the members of the congregation. It reveals in chapter three, the four major sources of the unmaking of a church. This is buttressed in Roman 8:6. Then you have a choice to decide to do away with your ego-obsession with the position you hold in your present church out of ignorance and move to a place where you can get salvation. If you are honest enough to admit that quite a number of unscriptural activities are going on in the church you attend now, follow the advice of the author: "Take a step of faith today by separating yourself from the church or groups of the dead" As the common saying goes, if your church can not change you, change your church.

The Challenge to the Auspices

Book Description

No public action of the Roman state, the populus Romanus, at home or at war, was to be carried out without prior permission from Iuppiter Optimus Maximus. Permission was obtained, in a procedure known as auspices, by the magistrate in charge of the intended action-usually a Consul, Praetor, or Dictator. Auspices thus occupy a fundamental place in the-unwritten-constitution of the Roman State. Yet especially in the 3rd century BCE, acceptance of the principle was not always universal. The Challenge to the Auspices presents an investigation into the interaction of Roman magistrates during the Middle Republic with the practice of auspices, with a focus on attempts to avoid, ignore, or resist this requirement. Proceeding from an examination of the Roman concepts of imperium and auspices (auspicia), especially as they relate to the realm of war, and of the constitutional position and powers of the Dictator and the Master-of-Horse (magister equitum) relative to each other and to the Consuls and lower magistrates, the work offers six case studies in which Roman commanders questioned, violated, or openly rejected the need for auspices. It is argued that these instances reflect a not insignificant minority view within the Roman ruling class regarding the efficacy of auspices and the necessity of observing them. The catastrophic outcome in several of these events, particularly during the early years of the Second Punic War, rendered further resistance to the practice politically unsustainable, and by the second century resulted in its universal acceptance, regardless of personal belief.

Critical Theory, Democracy, and the Challenge of Neoliberalism

Book Description

With a few exceptions, critical theorists have been late to provide a comprehensive diagnosis of neoliberalism comparable in scope to their extensive analyses of advanced welfare state capitalism. Instead, the main lines of critical theory have focused on questions of international justice which, while no doubt significant, restrict the scope of critical theory by deemphasizing linkages to larger political and economic conditions. Providing a critique of the Frankfurt School, Brian Caterino and Phillip Hansen move beyond its foundations, and call for a rethinking of the bases of critical theory as a practical, freedom-creating project. Outlining a resurgence of neoliberalism, the authors encourage a fresh, nuanced analysis that elucidates its political and economic structures and demonstrates the threats to freedom and democracy that neoliberalism poses. They propose the reformulation of a radical democratic alternative to neoliberalism, one that critically addresses its limitations while promoting an enhancement of communicative and social freedom.

English Grammar

Book Description

The approach to language and grammar that motivates this book is unabashedly functional; grammar is not just a system of empty rules, it is a means to an end, an instrument for constructing concise coherent communication. In grammar as in music, good expression rides on good form. Figuratively and literally, grammar like musical form must make sense. But for the instrument to serve its purpose, it must first exist; the rules must be real, they can be explicitly described and taught. This book is intended for both students and teachers, at college level, for both native and nonnative speakers. With the guidance of a teacher this book will serve as a thorough introduction to the grammar of English. Volume II continues with syntactic and communicative complexity: embedded clauses – verb complements, relative clauses; detransitive voice – passive, anti-passive, impersonal and middle voice, reflexive and reciprocal constructions; focus and topic constructions; nondeclarative speech acts. It closes with interclausal connectivity: conjoined and subordinate clauses, the grammar of discourse coherence, clause chains and thematic paragraphs.
