Electrochemical Biosensors

Book Description

Since four decades, rapid detection and monitoring in clinical and food diagnostics and in environmental and biodefense have paved the way for the elaboration of electrochemical biosensors. Thanks to their adaptability, ease of use in relatively complex samples, and their portability, electrochemical biosensors now are one of the mainstays of analy

Chemically Modified Electrodes for Methyl Parathion

Book Description

Methyl parathion was originally developed by the German pesticide company Bayer. It is a non-systemic pesticide that kills pests by acting as a stomach poison. It is used to control chewing and sucking insects in a wide range of crops, including cereals, fruit, vines, vegetables, ornaments, cotton and field crops. Methyl parathion is generally applied as a spray, mainly as an emulsifiable concentrate formulation. However, it is very toxice in nature and thus its analysis is of tremendous importance. The goal of the present investigation is basic cum applied in nature and it aims at the development of chemically modified electrode for methyl parathion.

Pesticides in the Modern World

Book Description

The book offers a professional look on the recent achievements and emerging trends in pesticides analysis, including pesticides identification and characterization. The 20 chapters are organized in three sections. The first book section addresses issues associated with pesticides classification, pesticides properties and environmental risks, and pesticides safe management, and provides a general overview on the advanced chromatographic and sensors- and biosensors-based methods for pesticides determination. The second book section is specially devoted to the chromatographic pesticides quantification, including sample preparation. The basic principles of the modern extraction techniques, such as: accelerated solvent extraction, supercritical fluid extraction, microwave assisted extraction, solid phase extraction, solid phase microextraction, matrix solid phase dispersion extraction, cloud point extraction, and QuEChERS are comprehensively described and critically evaluated. The third book section describes some alternative analytical approaches to the conventional methods of pesticides determination. These include voltammetric techniques making use of electrochemical sensors and biosensors, and solid-phase spectrometry combined with flow-injection analysis applying flow-based optosensors.

Handbook of Pesticides

Book Description

This handbook provides a systematic description of the principles, procedures, and technology of the modern analytical techniques used in the detection, extraction, clean up, and determination of pesticide residues present in the environment. This book provides the historical background of pesticides and emerging trends in pesticide regulation. The

Biosensors in Environmental Monitoring

Book Description

During recent years both research activity and the number of reports on biosensor systems applied to environmental analysis have increased significantly. Compounds present in the environment have increasingly been shown to have effects on biological systems such as cells, enzymes, binding proteins, and DNA. In order to deal with the increasing demand for information about possible pollution of the environment there is need for improvements to analytical methods. Thus, biochemistry-based analytical methods should offer the possibility of monitoring these effects. This text provides an overview of existing biosensor principles, commercially available instruments, and related biochemical assays which have been developed and applied to environmental monitoring. Providing the reader with detailed information on methodology and a description of the practical application of selected sensors, this text also includes reports on established chemical methods for comparison. This volume presents fundamental principles together with examples of applications and discussion of drawbacks, and future developments. Of interest to all in the field of environmental analysis and biosensor technology, this text provides a comprehensive treatise on the latest research and developments in the field.

Sustainable Agriculture Reviews 48

Book Description

This book reviews advanced techniques for the determination of pesticide residues, with focus on extraction, detectors and cleaning protocols. Chapters also discuss pesticide occurrence, toxicity and remediation.

Pesticides

Book Description

This book provides recent information on various analytical procedures and techniques, representing strategies for reliability, specificity, selectivity and sensitivity improvements in pesticides analysis. The volume covers three main topics: current trends in sample preparation, selective and sensitive chromatographic detection and determination of pesticides residues in food and environmental samples, and biological (immunoassays-and biosensors-based) methods application in pesticides analysis as an alternative to the chromatographic methods for "in situ" and "on line" pesticides quantification. Intended as electronic edition, providing an immediate "open access" to its content, the book is easy to follow and will be of interest to the professionals involved in pesticides analysis.
