Chevron-notch Fracture Test Experience

Book Description

Reviews the latest information and experimentation on the fracture-toughness testing of materials using specimens that are chevron notched, a procedure that has been an ASTM standard only since December 1989. The 13 papers were presented at a symposium in Indianapolis, May 1991; they include studies

Improvement of the Structural Integrity of Ceramic Parts

Book Description

In contrast to previous epochs, we live in a “new ceramic world” where advanced ceramics are engineered for specific applications. This book highlights studies in the fields of fracture mechanics and materials science as promising avenues for the quality control of ceramic products. It proposes new approaches to solving issues regarding the structural integrity of ceramic parts, namely techniques of crack initiation and retardation in ceramic parts of arbitrary shapes explaining regularities of crack retardation kinetics. It also presents a developed technique of high-temperature reduction-oxidation (redox) treatment of Ni-containing cermets for solid oxide fuel cell anodes. The book should be useful to mechanical engineers and materials scientists developing new ceramic and superhard materials and designing corresponding products of complex shapes.

Advances in Fracture Resistance and Structural Integrity

Book Description

The 8th International Conference on Fracture (ICF8), held in Kyiv, Ukraine, attracted 550 delegates from 30 countries with over 700 papers presented. This volume contains a representative selection of 72 articles of the highest standard from internationally renowned experts in the field. Principal topics covered include: mechanics and criteria of fracture, stress-strain analysis in solids with cracks, physics and mechanics of fracture, dynamic fracture, environmental effects, temperature influence on fracture, advanced and special-purpose materials engineering applications of fracture mechanics, fracture mechanics and strength of welded joints and structures, testing techniques and failure diagnostics. For anyone working in fracture mechanics and the performance of materials, this volume provides a valuable snapshot of the major recent developments in the field.
