Climate Atlas of Eurasian and North American Arctic Regions

Book Description

Research Paper (undergraduate) from the year 2001 in the subject Geography / Earth Science - Physical Geography, Geomorphology, Environmental Studies, grade: 1,7, University of Lapland (Arctic Center), course: Ecological and Historical Biogeography of Arctic and Alpine Regions, 7 entries in the bibliography, language: English, abstract: The present climate atlas will show the climatic differences between selected arctic regions from Eurasia, or strictly speaking Russia, and North America. The main emphasis will thereby be put on the difference between oceanic (maritime) and continental climate. It will also show the spread of permafrost and the localisation of the Arctic tree line, which both depends on the existing climate. In the Appendix, the climate-diagrams for each selected station and equivalent maps of the chosen sections and for the locating of the tree line and the permafrost can be found.

Climate Change in Eurasian Arctic Shelf Seas

Book Description

In this book the eminent authors analyse the ice cover variability in the Arctic Seas during the 20th and early 21st centuries. In the first two chapters, they show that multi-year changes of the sea-ice extent in the Arctic Seas were formed by linear trends and long-term (climatic) cycles lasting about 10, 20 and 60 years. The structure of temporal variability of the western region (Greenland – Kara) differs significantly from the eastern region seas (Laptev and Chukchi). In the latter region, unlike the former area, relatively short-period cycles (up to 10 years) predominate. The linear trends can be related to a super-secular cycle of climatic changes over about 200 years. The most significant of these cycles, lasting 60 years, is most pronounced in the western region seas.

World Regional Geography

Book Description

Like no other textbook, Pulsipher and Pulsipher’s World Regional Geography puts a human face on the study of regional geography, showing how larger geographical forces affect the lives of individuals and communities around the globe. It’s a refreshing, people-centered approach to the subject focusing on the stories of real people, global trends and interregional linkages, and contemporary topics that transcend regional borders (the war on terrorism, global political order, interregional trade, the global economy, popular culture, the environment, and the Internet).
