Book Description

A collection of learning activities for families with children in 1st grade. These activities will help these children develop such age-appropriate abilities as: know the parts of a book and their functions; read and comprehend both fiction and nonfiction; identify a sentence; know differences among letters, words, and sentences; have a reading vocabulary of 300-500 words; create their own written texts; form letters; use punctuation and capitalization; write sentences and stories; read and comprehend at grade level; monitor their own reading; discuss prior knowledge; describe new information from a text; and answer simple comprehension questions.
