The division of the material conforms to the recommendations conained in the WMO publication entiled "Guidelines for the education and trainig of meteorological personne"which divides the subject-matter into two main parts: (1) education in the basic sciences and (2) meteorological training. With regard to the former, the guidelines propese a curriculum on "Earth science"to provid the students with some knowledge of the human environment; woth regard to the part on meteorological training, the Guidelines cover inter alia general meteorology, meteorological instruments and metheods of oservation and aeronautical meteorology.
