Conan the Barbarian: Battle of the Black Stone

Book Description

Across time and space, the Heroes of Man discovered the sign of the Black Stone. In 1936 Chicago, Professor Conrad and Kirowan held a clandestine meeting with an old gunslinger named El Borak to trace the symbol’s origins. In the 16th century, Dark Agnes found the sigil in France, as years later Solomon Kane did in deepest Africa. While still back in 1930s Texas, writer James Allison sat down to type potentially his last story… just as evil darkened his doorway. The many echoes, the many sightings come to their crescendo in the Hyborian Age, where Conan of Cimmeria raced into the jungles near Conajohara to unearth the sign’s mystery. There he found a score of corrupted Picts worshipping the symbol and set to bloody work. Yet even as he carved through their number with abandon, a soul-shearing howl heralded the arrival of an apparition in agony: James Allison, appearing to each of the heroes in turn, chaining them together for now and evermore…

Conan the Barbarian: Battle of the Black Stone #3

Book Description

Confronted by the apparition of slain writer James Allison, The Heroes of Man demanded answers concerning the black stone symbol. Allison stated the sigil meant they were all hunted. At the Wanderer’s Club in 1936, a terrible Black Stone Beast appeared from beyond, spurring El Borak, Conrad, and Kirowan, into decisive action. Outmaneuvered by the Beast’s terrifying speed and crushing strength, all looked grim, until the cosmic arrival of Brissa, whose Pict-blade spear drove the Beast away. Nary a moment passed before Allison pulled all the Heroes of Man through time and space, taking them to Conan’s Hyborian Age. Shock led to anger, then a brawl between Conan and Solomon Kane, before El Borak had a nightmarish vision. A memory of his past, now corrupted, invaded by the Black Stone Beast. Though his past-self fought valiantly, the Beast slew El Borak – killing him in the past but also in the Hyborain Age ‘present’. With our Heroes shocked to their core by his grisly demise. Brissa declared they had but two choices: flee or fight. Thus, the six remaining Heroes stepped through the Pict gate, seeking answers in the heart of the jungle.

Conan the Barbarian #15

Book Description

After trouncing a trio of Aesir warriors set to steal his hard-fought game, Conan of Cimmeria struck a peace with their leader Niord and shared their campfire, where he listened to Aesir tales of battle, the fury of their gods, and of their mortal enemies the Vanir. Upon heeding a desperate horn call, the group found the nearby Aesir village aflame and, knowing the Vanir were to blame, Niord set his warband to hunt, accepting Conan’s offer of help and arming the Cimmerian for battle. Setting out into the norther wastes, the war party was shadowed by an ethereal mysterious woman, who observed the warriors persisting through a blizzard sent by ‘her father.’ When the sudden storm abated, Niord’s war party found themselves facing the Vanir out on the ice, and an orgy of violence followed. During the brutal battle, the woman marveled at the black-haired Cimmerian, whose fire and fury burned so much brighter than the others. There, amidst the cold and carnage, she claimed Conan for herself.

There, thunder preceded the arrival of the woman’s Frost-Giant brothers, who attempted to slay the Cimmerian. But Conan was underestimated, succeeding in felling both brothers before chasing the woman to fulfil his raging desires. Capture, the woman beseeched her father, Ymir, who rescued his daughter from her folly and rendered Conan unconscious. When the Cimmerian awoke, he was surrounded by Niord and his Aesirmen who’d followed his spoor through the wastes. Though first disbelieving his tale, all recognized the truth when they beheld the gossamer in the Cimmerian’s hands: Conan had met Atali, the Frost-Giant’s daughter.
