"This manual assists the condition rating survey (CRS) rater in identifying pavement distresses with a rating section. The determination of the distress' frequency level is based on the rater's judgment. The amount of distress a pavement contains has a direct impact on the CRS value for that pavement ... The 1994 Condition Rating Survey was the first survey to collect distress date using the video inspection vehicles (VIV) and the image processing workstations (IPW). The pavements are videotaped by the VIVs and then viewed in the IPWs where the distresses are entered. A computer model then calculates the CRS value based the distressed and sensor data, such as rutting measurements."--Page i.

The purpose of this manual is to provide clear and helpful information for maintaining gravel roads. Very little technical help is available to small agencies that are responsible for managing these roads. Gravel road maintenance has traditionally been "more of an art than a science" and very few formal standards exist. This manual contains guidelines to help answer the questions that arise concerning gravel road maintenance such as: What is enough surface crown? What is too much? What causes corrugation? The information is as nontechnical as possible without sacrificing clear guidelines and instructions on how to do the job right.

This guide was developed to provide an easy, consistent means of assessing city street pavement conditions, both within a community and statewide. The guide includes an easy-to-use subjective condition rating methodology that defines pavement condition ratings from 0 to 100. In addition, guidance for determining a pavement's necessary level of repair is provided.

This manual provides a review for land licensing examinees, a reference for surveyors and students, and a summary of the profession of surveying for others. Multiple choice questions follow the review of each subject. At the end of each chapter, these questions and problems are explained and/or solved. The explanations often have additional teaching points. A unique feature is discussion of the many 'logical distractors' in the multiple choice questions. The purpose of this is to develop skills in analyzing multiple choice questions as well as provide additional teaching points.
