Book Description

Excerpt from 1990 River Conservation Directory The National Park Service Rivers and Trails Conservation Assistance program and the National Association for State River Conservation Programs developed the 1990 River Conservation Directory through a cooperative agreement which was initiated in November, 1988. The National Park Service Rivers and Trails Conservation Assistance program cooperates with states, local governments, and citizen organizations to protect and restore river corridors and to establish trails nationwide. The nps provides technical assistance at the request of groups working to protect river and trail resources. With regard to rivers, N PS staff assist in statewide river assessments, conservation strategies for individual streams or watersheds, urban waterfront revitalization, and National Wild and Scenic River designations.
