Excerpt from Cooperative Plant Pest Control Programs, Vol. 2: Annual Reports, Fiscal Year 1959 Following the eradication of the second infestation of the Mediterranean Fruit Fly in Florida, the last specimen being found November 26, 1957, the intensive trapping program was continued through the summer of 1958. Trap numbers were reduced during the winter of 1958-1959, and all plastic traps were converted to the combination traps to attract five species of fruit flies Mediterranean, melon, natal, Oriental, and Queensland. Small numbers of traps were continued in operation in Alabama, Georgia, Louisiana, Mississippi, South Carolina and Texas.
