The conference publication opens with a series of challenges: (1) To meet food needs of an ever-growing population at home and abroad; (2) to compete in growing world markets; (3) to maintain satisfactory, stable incomes for farmers; (4) to conserve and develop natural resources; (5) to protect human health from unreasonable use of chemicals, drugs, and unsafe disposal of wastes; (6) to develop institutions which maintain and support the family farm.
