Database and Physical Process Design

Book Description

This volume demonstrates techniques used to specify the physical data and processes for a new computer system using the language and features of the chosen physical environment. It covers techniques used to develop the Database Design, and, if desired, the Physical Process Specification.

Database Life Cycle

Book Description

This block is concerned with the database lifecycle, which describes the stages a database goes through, from the time the need for a database is established until it is withdrawn from use. This block applies the practice developed in Block 3 to systematically develop, implement and maintain a database design that supports the information requirements of an enterprise. It presents a simple framework for database development and maintenance. This is a very practical block and will require you to write and execute SQL statements for which you will need access to a computer installed with the course software (order code M359/CDR01) and database cards Scenarios and Hospital conceptual data model (order code M359/DBCARDS)

Database Processing

Book Description

Revised to reflect the needs of today's users, this 10 th edition ofDatabase Processingassures that you will learn marketable skills. By presenting SQL SELECT statements near the beginning of the book readers will know early on how to query data and obtain resultsseeing firsthand some of the ways that database technology is useful in the marketplace. By utilizing free software downloads, you will be able to actively use a DBMS product by the end of the 2 nd chapter. Each topic appears in the context of accomplishing practical tasks. Its spiral approach to database design (incorporating all 3 sources: from the integration of existing data, from new information, and the need to redesign an existing database) provides users with enhanced information not available in other database books on the market. Topics include: SQL, database design, implementation, processing, access standards, and business intelligence. An excellent reference and handbook for information systems professionals such as database administrators, database designers, systems analysts, web-database developers, and programmers of database applications.

Database Management and Social Media Analytical Process: Optimizing Business Operation through Hybrid Tools

Book Description

The digital world has a wealth of data, such as internet of things (IoT) data, business data, health data, mobile data, urban data, security data, and many more, in the current age of the Fourth Industrial Revolution (Industry 4.0 or 4IR). Extracting knowledge or useful insights from these data can be used for smart decision-making in various applications domains. In the area of data science, advanced analytics methods including machine learning modeling can provide actionable insights or deeper knowledge about data, which makes the computing process automatic and smart. This book focuses as a reference point on data science and advanced analytics to the researchers and decision-makers as well as application developers, particularly from the data-driven solution point of view for real-world problems using social media analytics.

Principles of Database Management

Book Description

Introductory, theory-practice balanced text teaching the fundamentals of databases to advanced undergraduates or graduate students in information systems or computer science.

Business Processes

Book Description

While classic data management focuses on the data itself, research on Business Processes also considers the context in which this data is generated and manipulated, namely the processes, users, and goals that this data serves. This provides the analysts a better perspective of the organizational needs centered around the data. As such, this research is of fundamental importance. Much of the success of database systems in the last decade is due to the beauty and elegance of the relational model and its declarative query languages, combined with a rich spectrum of underlying evaluation and optimization techniques, and efficient implementations. Much like the case for traditional database research, elegant modeling and rich underlying technology are likely to be highly beneficiary for the Business Process owners and their users; both can benefit from easy formulation and analysis of the processes. While there have been many important advances in this research in recent years, there is still much to be desired: specifically, there have been many works that focus on the processes behavior (flow), and many that focus on its data, but only very few works have dealt with both the state-of-the-art in a database approach to Business Process modeling and analysis, the progress towards a holistic flow-and-data framework for these tasks, and highlight the current gaps and research directions.
