This report includes summary data on Department of Defense (DoD) prime contract awards over $25,000 by Service Category and Federal Supply Classification (FSC) for fiscal years (FYs) 1996, 1995, 1994, and 1993. These are displayed in Table 1, page 9; Table 2, page 13; and Table 3, page 35. Only the FY 1996 data are displayed in Table 4, page 55. Awards of $25,000 or less are covered in Exhibits A and B, page 4. Exhibits A through F are discussed in the 'HIGHLIGHTS' section, page 3. Table 1 - This table covers awards for Research, Development, Test, and Evaluation (RDT & E) services. Data are displayed according to DoD procurement program categories. Table 2 - Data on awards for Other Services and Construction are provided in Table 2, arrayed according to Federal Procurement Data System (FPDS) codes and descriptions. The FPDS system of codes covers all non-RDT & E services and is comprised of 23 groups and approximately 1500 individual classes. Some of the groups that are shown in Table 2 include Construction of Structures and Facilities, Operation of Government-Owned Facilities, Lease or Rental of Equipment, and Utilities and Housekeeping Services. Table 3 This table contains data on awards for Supplies and Equipment, presented according to the appropriate FSC code and description. The FSC system of codes is composed of 78 groups and approximately 700 individual classes. This system was developed primarily for supply management of items known to be in the supply system of the Federal Government. Definitions of the classes appear in the Cataloging Handbook, Federal Supply Classfication, Part I, 'Groups and Classes, ' H2-1, which may be purchased from the Superintendent of Documents, U.S. Government Printing Office, Washington, D.C. 20402-9371. Table 4 - This table shows only FY 1996 data by DoD Component for each of the FSCs displayed by category in Tables 1, 2, and 3.
