The Department's specific objectives are: promoting sustainable livelihoods; better education, health and opportunities for poor people; and protection and better management of the natural and physical environment. They work through partnerships with multilateral development organisations, such as the World Bank, the European Union (EU) and the United Nations (UN), and also work to ensure that UK Government policies take account of the needs of poor countries. This report gives an overview of the work of the Department in 2000/2001 and the strategy for its objectives. Statistical annexes show thee Main Estimates for 2001/2 and how money has been spent since 1997.
