There appears to be a strong linkage between the training and development and the level of growth within a country. The best HRM practice for improving employee's skills is training and development. Generally, Training and Development practices are an organization's intentional efforts to improve performance by helping employees acquire the skills and knowledge. Training enables employees to achieve the levels of knowledge, skill, and competence needed to carry out their work effectively and thus helps the growth of a business. One of the core objectives that every business should have is business growth. Sample of 60 from small and medium-sized enterprises in the Sri Lankan manufacturing sector that have embarked upon different growth development pathways; and to examine possible connections between small and medium-sized enterprise growth, and training and development. A few studies have been done on the above theme, but no studies have been conducted in Sri Lankan perspectives. Statistical analysis reveals highly significant differences in training and development, as well as training methods, providers and fields, across the low-, moderate and high-growth small and medium-sized enterprise development pathways. Furthermore, training is a relatively consistent concomitant with small and medium-sized enterprise growth.

Sri Lanka continues to experience strong economic growth over the recent years. In the food and agriculture sector, however, there are several conspicuous policy changes that require attentive analysis. Also, since 2008, agriculture growth slowed down due to drought and weak global demand which affected exports and trade. This brief takes stock of key food and agricultural indicators and provides key recommendations to further expedite the transformation of the sector. Sri Lanka has come a long way in terms of agricultural transformation, moving from subsistence- based agrarian economy towards early integration stage. But further progress towards market- oriented industrialized agriculture will crucially depend on the policy, institutional, and technological innovations that are designed and implemented by the Government. The government of Sri Lanka has been pursuing large-scale reconstruction and development projects to achieve higher growth by developing small and medium enterprises and to increase agricultural productivity.

Each Trade Policy Review consists of three parts: a report by the government under review, a report written independently by the WTO Secretariat, and the concluding remarks by the chair of the Trade Policy Review Body. A highlights section provides an overview of key trade facts. 15 to 20 new review titles are published each year. The reviews consist of detailed chapters examining the trade policies and practices of the member and describing trade policy-making institutions and the macroeconomic situation; these chapters are preceded by the Secretariat's Summary Observations, which summarize the report and presents the Secretariat's perspective on the member's trade policies. The Secretariat report and the member's policy statement are published after the review meeting, along with the minutes of the meeting and the text of the Chairperson's Concluding Remarks.
