Book Description

This is the eighth volume in the series of catalogues detailing the type of invertebrate fossils in the GSC collection in Ottawa. The catalogue mainly includes all fossils described between late 1981 and 1990. Descriptions or illustrations of fossils listed in previous volumes but redescribed during the period are also included. Primary type categories Holotype, Paratype, Syntype, Lectotype, Neotype, and secondary Hypotype, Topotype, and figured specimens are used with the same connotations as in previous volumes. The original reference for each species is cited as well as subsequent reviews directly involving the forms listed.

This bulletin presents an interpretation of a part of the stratigraphic sequence currently under active exploration within the general Fort Nelson area of north-east British Columbia. This sequence includes limestones & dolomites of the Devonian Slave Point Formation, the limestone & argillaceous members of the Beaverhill Lake Formation, and the Muskwa Formation shales. The bulletin includes information on their lithology, distribution in British Columbia & Alberta, stratigraphic correlations, and geological history. The final chapter reviews the geology of the natural gas deposits found in the Slave Point Formation. The appendix includes descriptions of drill cores and an index.
