Foreign language dictionaries give meanings of verbs and prepositions, but they do not tell the reader how to use them very well. That is what this dictionary does. It furnishes the user three items: (1) most of the syntactical constructions that a verb or a preposition allows, (2) sample sentences both in Spanish and English of each verb's possible usages, and (3) each verb's conjugations, so that those wanting to know how to conjugate a verb do not have to go to another source to look up its conjugations. (It should be noted that the definition of a preposition is expanded here to include many words that traditionally have been called "adverbs.") It can be a very useful tool for students learning Spanish to help them put together sentences. It can also be very helpful for Spanish teachers and linguists to learn of a very creative way to explain syntax.

All Spanish Prepositions This book is intended to explain how to use the 23 prepositions existing in the Spanish language to students of Spanish as a second language or to Spanish native speakers who want to acquire, refresh or improve their knowledge on this topic. Studying prepositions in any language is one of the hardest tasks because there are several rules to follow as well as some exceptions. The various rule categories are explained for each preposition along with numerous examples. These examples cover different contexts to give the reader multiple usage options of the language throughout the 427 examples in Spanish which are translated into English. By reading this book and analyzing the examples, the usage of prepositions in Spanish will eventually become a second nature to you. With that being said, let’s get started!

The Colombian writer, José Rufino Cuervo, used the last few years of his life to write a monumental work, El Diccionario de Construcción y Régimen de la Lengua Española. Unfortunately he was only able to write the first three sections, A, B, and C. He had also wanted to write a dictionary that would include some Spanish verbs and their appropriate prepositions, with each one being duly authorized by quotes from classic and modern Spanish authors. What we are proposing is not as ambitious, but it does include two languages, i.e., English and Spanish, and six sections. The first section is an alphabetical list of Spanish prepositions, with explanatory examples. The second section is a glossary in Spanish of those verbs that require the use of a preposition and their consequent translation to English. The third section is another alphabetical list of English prepositions, also with explanatory examples. The fourth and last section is again a glossary, but this time in English, of the verbs that require prepositions and likewise their translation into Spanish. As a conclusion, we are adding two short appendices. One concerns the use of accents in Spanish and the other has to do with a comparison of the punctuation differences between these two languages. - Introduction.
