Diffraction of Electromagnetic Waves by a Plane Wire Grating (Classic Reprint)

Book Description

Excerpt from Diffraction of Electromagnetic Waves by a Plane Wire Grating In the infrared region the grating constant is much greater than a wavelength. In this case one can assume that there is no interaction between the wires of the grating. The diffraction field is taken as the sum of diffrac tion fields of the individual wires of the grating, the field of any one wire calculated neglecting the other wiresl. The grating is assumed to consist of a set of infinite, parallel, equidistant, perfectly conducting circular cylinders. The set may be taken as finite, showing the background in addition to the various order spectra. Only the infinite grating will be considered here. This approach was extended somewhat by'twersky2 who included the first order interaction effects between neighboring elements in the case of an acoustic wave incident on a grat ing of perfectly rigid circular cylinders. In Section 3 the procedure in our vectorial problem is described more fully, with an explanation of how the method of separation of variables plus proper consideration of edge behavior leads to a unique solution under conditions which are physically meaningful. Diffraction of Electromagnetic Waves by a Slit in a Conducting Plan Between Different Media (Classic Reprint)

Book Description

Excerpt from Diffraction of Electromagnetic Waves by a Slit in a Conducting Plan Between Different Media One of the classical diffraction problems is the problem of diffraction of electromagnetic waves by an infinitely long parallel slit in a perfectly conducting plane embedded in a homogeneous medium. The problem was first treated.by Sieger[i], and extensive numerical results are due especially to Morse and and Skavlem[3]. The general procedure is to expand in terms of Mathieu functions the incident, reflected, and diffracted fields, and then to evaluate explicitly the coef ficients of the series using the boundary conditions. On Diffraction by an Infinite Grating (Classic Reprint)

Book Description

Excerpt from On Diffraction by an Infinite Grating The diffraction of a plane wave by an infinite grating of identical circular cylinders is considered. It is shown that the various scattered cylindrical waves combine to form a finite number of plane waves and at: infinite number of surface waves.
