Delivered before the Eastern Ontario Dental Society, Ottawa, September. 1018. I. In the field of crown work a clear conception and a thor ough understanding of the indications and requirements of such substitutes are essentially necessary. It'is largely a matter of judgment and discrimination as to the particular method applicable to the case at hand. At first conclusion there may be several methods apparentlv applicable, but there is usually one in particular which upon close observation will best neet all of the requirements. While crown work is divi de into two general classes, namely the shell, or telescope crown and the dowel crown, the variation in the essential de tail of their individual construction requires that each class he sub-d ided and considered separatelv. Dominion Dental Journal, 1899, Vol. 11 (Classic Reprint)

Book Description

Excerpt from Dominion Dental Journal, 1899, Vol. 11 We are very glad to be able to give our readers the portrait Of Dr. G. Lenox Curtis, who has made a reputation for himself as an operator in the special lines Of oral and facial surgery, which enabled him some years ago to abandon the practice Of dentistry, to devote himself exclusively to these branches. Canadian dentists who are in the habit of attending our various conventions, and who have witnessed some Of the brilliant Operations in oral, facial and nasal surge'ry by the doctor, will remember his skill in working almost exclusively through the mouth, and without opening or scarring the face. The success Of several Of these cases was clearly due to the special skill and experience the doctor enjoyed for many years as a practical dentist. The training in the every-day use Of the dental engine. And various mechanical devices, led him naturally to resort to their assistance more than the ordinarily trained surgeon would be apt to adopt. Many Of the methods and mechanical devices which we have seen the doctor use, were the outgrowth Of practical experience as a dentist, and several Of the best are his own invention. Dominion Dental Journal, 1889, Vol. 1 (Classic Reprint)

Book Description

Excerpt from Dominion Dental Journal, 1889, Vol. 1 In a paper read before the New York Odontological Society, in December, 1875, I ventured to give one of the quickest cases of regulating the teeth on record, done without plates or ligatures, and comprising ideas as old as Hun ter and as modern as Tomes. The case was a unique one, inasmuch as it was one where the patient, a young man eighteen years old, had determined to have the teeth extracted and artificial substitutes inserted. I am aware that other modes of treatment might have been used by those who could command a large fee, but as the case was one which I volunteered as an experiment, and for which no reasonable fee was expected, I made choice of two evils - the one I chose having proved to be a blessing in disguise. Through the courtesy of the publisher of the Cosmos I am able to present the illustrations. About the Publisher Forgotten Books publishes hundreds of thousands of rare and classic books.
