Dream Assassin

Book Description

There's a sex trafficking ring targeting young teens operating out of the metro area, and its tentacles are nationwide. Gabriel Brown, a.k.a. Angel Man, runs the ring like a businessman using the no mercy tactics of a terrorist. Though the cartel has muscled its way into his operation, he's sure he can sidestep the wrath of the cartel's hitman and secretly start his own lucrative side business using select high-end girls, including his long-time captive, Haley, as a lure. But sixteen-year-old Haley is looking for an out, one that doesn't leave her dead. Police Sergeant Angie Granger is assigned to help FBI Special Agent John Gallagher take down the ring by going undercover into the dark world of sex trafficking. Angie's new romantic interest, former Army Ranger turned bounty hunter, Mac Barelli, is not too happy about that. Further complicating the matter, Mac is pulled into the operation when his dead military buddy's daughter is taken by the ring, and her mother uses her own attraction for Mac and his PTSD guilt over the loss of his friend to influence him into helping her look for her daughter. Events spiral out of control when the time frame for the FBI's raid is leaked, and Mac and the found girls are trapped inside the tunnels of an old monastery where the ring has its operation. But the cartel's hitman is onto them and has murder on his mind.

Remade in France

Book Description

Remade in France: Anglicisms in the Lexicon and Morphology of French chronicles the current status of French Anglicisms, a popular topic in the history of the French language and a compelling example of the influence of global English. The abundant data come from primary sources-a large online newspaper corpus (for unofficial Anglicisms) and the dictionary (for official Anglicisms)-and secondary sources. This book examines the appearance and behavior of English items in the lexicon and morphology of French, and explains them in the context of French neology and lexical activity. The first phase of the latest contact period (1990-2015) has its own complex linguistic characterization, including a significant influx of nonce borrowings and very low frequency Anglicisms, heterogeneous and creative borrowing outcomes, and direct phraseological borrowing. This book is a counterargument to the well-known criticism that Anglicisms are lexical polluters. On the contrary, the use of Anglicisms requires the inventive application of complex linguistic rules, and the borrowing of Anglicisms into the French lexicon is convincing proof that language change is systematic. The findings bring novel interdisciplinary insights to the domains of borrowing in a non-bilingual contact setting; global English as a source of lexical creativity in the French lexicon; the phases, patterns and processes of integration of English loanwords; the morphology of borrowing; and computational corpus linguistics. The appended database is a snapshot of a synchronic period of linguistic contact and a useful lexicographic resource.

My Supplier

Book Description

Looking around at the people beside me, I felt envious. No doubt, none of these people ever had to fight for their life. None of these people had been tortured for something they didn't even do. None of these people were stressed out over the fact that the whole government wanted them dead and that if kidnapped, Bruttons would have no way of escaping. None of these people had a life remotely close to mine, or the ugly scars and bruises to prove it. Ceremonies are generally a day marked for celebration. But for Daisy it is a day when the rest of her life will be decided. The friends she has and the people she's known for her entire life will be split up and shipped off to one of two different cities. Bellezas are provided with a beautiful life in paradise, while Bruttons are imprisoned in the slums of Vulcan City and forced to be personal organ donors for Bellezas. What would you do if the world you knew, the people you loved, and your way of life was ripped away from you in a matter of moments? Would you fight for what you believe in, for what you know is right? Apollian is on the brink of a revolution. Does Daisy have what it takes to lead her people to freedom?
