Dream Slayers

Book Description

One might ask why anyone in a country as great and prosperous as the United States of America would need a dream. Do we not have opportunities to acquire just about anything that anybody could want? Some have said that dreams are for people who want to escape life's harsh realities, preferring to live in a fantasy world. Perhaps, but I say we are all better off with a dream.

The Aesthetics of Culture in Buffy the Vampire Slayer

Book Description

On the TV screen as elsewhere, there is often more than meets the eye. For decades, television has offered not just entertainment, but observations--subtle and otherwise--on society. This book examines the cultural commentary contained in Buffy, the Vampire Slayer, a show that ran for seven seasons (1997-2003) and 144 episodes. On the surface, Buffy is the marriage of a high school drama to gothic horror. This somewhat unusual vehicle is used to present, via the character of Buffy, fairly typical views of late 20th century culture-teenage problems; issues regarding a broken home; and the search for meaning and validation. In addition, subtler themes, such as cultural views of knowledge, ethnicity and history, are woven into the show's critique of popular culture. Organized into two sections, this volume offers an in-depth examination of the show: first, through the lens of Buffy's confrontation with culture, and second, from the complex perspectives of the individual characters. Issues such as values, ethical choices and the implications of one's actions are discussed--without ever losing sight of the limitations of a medium that will always be dominated by financial concerns. The final chapter summarizes what Buffy has to say about today's society. An appendix lists Buffy episodes in chronological order.

The Dangerous Book for Demon Slayers

Book Description

Demon slaying powers should come with an instruction book. Seriously. Why does a new hair dryer have a twelve-page how-to manual, but when it comes to ancient demon-fighting magic, my biker witch grandma just gives me half a dozen switch stars and a rah-rah speech? Oh, and a talking terrier, but that's another story. It's not like my job as a preschool teacher prepared me for this kind of thing. So I've decided to write my own manual, The Dangerous Book for Demon Slayers. Because—frankly—I need all the help I can get. Dimitri, my "protector," may be one stud of a shape-shifting griffin, but he’s no match for the soul-stealing succubi taking over Las Vegas. My biker witch friends are being corrupted from the inside. And if I can't figure out how to save my guy, my friends—and Sin City—there'll be hell to pay.

Dreams in American Television Narratives

Book Description

Dreams in Television Narratives is the first comprehensive analysis of one of American television's most frequently utilized tropes, the dream. From its beginning, television has been a storytelling medium. Whether delivered to a live audience or played out on a sound stage, narratives and those who write them have always been the crux of the television program. While film can claim a long history of scholarly inquiry into the connection between film and dreams, no comprehensive research exists on the subject of television dreams. Locating its primary function as narrative, the author uses examples from American sitcoms and dramatic programs, analyzing the narrative functions of dreams using, as its frame, Carl Jung's narrative stages of the dream: exposition, development, culmination, and conclusion. While television dreams are analyzed throughout, case studies of the television programs The Sopranos and Buffy the Vampire Slayer are included to show in detail how dreams function throughout a television series. Includes a compendium of over 1000 television episodes that include dreams, a valuable tool for any television scholar or enthusiast.

Living IN A Supernatural Dream The story

Book Description

Hello...my name is Krystal Duhart and based upon a set of very unique dreams I had in 2020 (when I lived in Atlanta, Ga), I decided to write a book about them. These dreams were so real that at times, it was very difficult to tell when I was dreaming and when I wasn't. But that wasn’t the weirdest part by a long shot. The weirdest part was that I could literally feel things in my dreams as though they were happening in real life. During the day I would be living my ‘regular life' but at night when I fell asleep and began dreaming, it was like I would travel to another world. During that time, I would interact with a couple of handsome young men who called themselves Supernatural hunters. During the course of my dreams, I ended up forming a relationship with one of them and we fell desperately in love. However, because I knew that I was dreaming, I could not in all honesty continue the relationship because I knew it wasn’t real. Nevertheless, as I said before, our relationship didn’t feel like it was a dream...it felt like it was real life. What was I to do, throw away the most beautiful thing that ever happened to me because it was just a dream? What would you do, continue hoping things might change or because you know it’s only a dream, permanently end things? The choice, at least for me, wasn’t very easy. Getting back to my dreams, I ended up not only becoming involved with this man (Jason), I ended up becoming involved in the men’s professional work, as well. However, because I couldn’t control when I’d wake up and re-enter my dreams, I had to deal with time loss and that threw a crimp in our relationship. But according to Jason, when I supposedly woke up, apparently, I never left my dream world. When I confronted my lover about this, he was extremely confused and said that’s impossible baby, you’ve been with me the whole time. This completely baffled me, and I literally tried to seek professional help concerning the matter, but they said they couldn’t see me for a full 2 months. I am still unsure of why I had these dreams...I don’t know if God was trying to show me something in them or if I may have eaten too much pizza before bedtime? Lol! Because I often had these dreams on consecutive nights and the characters in them never changed, I felt that maybe God was trying to convey an important message to me. Perhaps you can help me discern the true reason for my dreams. Thank you & God bless.
