Nematode Pathogenesis of Insects and Other Pests

Book Description

Achieving a sustainable agriculture requires integrating advances in multiples disciplines, covering both fundamental and applied research in a common objective: enhancing crop health for better productions. This first volume of the Series “Sustainability in plant and crop protection” presents a comprehensive and multi-disciplinary compendium about the recent achievements in the use of entomopathogenic nematodes (EPNs) as biological control in a global scale. The volume is organized in a first section discussing the last discoveries on the biology and ecology of the EPN, a second section covering the advances on the EPN productions and release, and a third section with multiples case-studies in which the concepts and ideas on the two previous sections are integrated and discussed. An essential tool for researchers and professionals working to advance in the sustainable use of our resources.

Entomopathogenic Nematodes and Their Bacterial Symbionts from Pakistan

Book Description

Bio-control is a major tactic in the integrated pest management system. Entomopathogenic nematodes have been recognized as one of the potential and most effective biocontrol agent for the control of major insect pest which cause serious damage to food and fiber crops of agricultural importance for the control of insect pest in agricultural crops like cotton and fruit trees, a wide range of chemical pesticides have been indiscriminately used since many decades. The long lasting impact of the chemical on the non target organism, development of insect resistance to chemical pesticides and its hazardous effects on the human and the environment, stimulated the interest of the scientist for an alternate control measure through the biocontrol means for destroying the insect pests as to increase the agricultural productivity. Among the insect pathogens entomopathogenic nematodes have been considered as exceptionally effective biocontrol agents having non polluting properties.
