Esperanza Peña Mirabal de Lithgow was born in Santiago, Dominican Republic, on March 22, 1937. She studied gastronomy from a very young age and taught Dominican cuisine for more than 40 years. She was the founder of the Cookbook Pavilion of the International Book Fair in the Dominican Republic. She was the winner of the first prize in the International Book Fair - Cuisine Pavilion, in 1996. She has been twice awarded the Presidential National Women's Merit Plaque as a master Dominican chef in 2006 and 2008She was declared in 2011 by resolution of the National Council of the Ministry of Culture as a Master of Dominican Gastronomic Culture.Author of two cookbooks entitled "Cocina Fácil" (easy cooking), with two editions and "Easy Entrees for You" ("Entremeses Faciles para ti)Director for more than 40 years of different television programs teaching the art of cooking. She later retired to allow her students to carry on her legacy. Founder of a gastronomic center and the Cooking Club "Cocinando con Esperanza", which is more than four decades old, and still active.
