This publication presents information on roof and rib falls that occurred in coal mining operations from January 1996 through December 1998. The fatalities in this report consist of accidents involving roof and rib falls. It includes statistics for all of the fatalities, as well as abstracts and illustrations. From January 1996 through December 1998, 36 miners died at coal operations from accidents classified as roof falls.
