First Biennial Report of the Department of Statistics for 1885-6, Vol. 7 (Classic Reprint)

Book Description

Excerpt from First Biennial Report of the Department of Statistics for 1885-6, Vol. 7 The change in the law by the last Legislature, requiring bi ennial instead of annual reports, has not lessened in any degree the labor of the Bureau, since it has been necessary to collect and compile the statistics for each of the annual periods for which this report is made. As the saving to the State is, there fore, only in the matter of printing and binding, it becomes a question whether the inconvenience arising from the publica tion, but once in two years, of the matters in which so many are interested, does not outweigh the pittance saved to the State, and whether a return to the system of annual reports would not be advantageous to all concerned. The value of ag ricultural and other statistics depends as much upon their prompt publication as upon their correct compilation, and, in this age, such statistics, to prove of practical utility, should be published at least annually. Second Biennial Report of the Bureau of Labor and Indutrial Statistics

Book Description

Excerpt from Second Biennial Report of the Bureau of Labor and Indutrial Statistics: 1885-1886 This Report is somewhat unsatisfactory in its order of arrangement, for the reason that the several parts were given to the printers as they could be finished, and before the close of the biennial period, in order to enable the public printer to get out other Reports before the meeting of the Legislature, if possible. It has, notwithstanding this effort, been kept from the public more than a month, by reason of waiting for paper under the new contract. Its Size exceeds the prescribed limit, but rather than have the Report of the Factory Inspector and other important mat ter excluded, the Printing Commission, by virtue of the dis cretion given in section 3, chapter 320, laws of 1883, granted permission for enlargement. Seventh Biennial Report of the Bureau of Labor Statistics, 1910 (Classic Reprint)

Book Description

Excerpt from Seventh Biennial Report of the Bureau of Labor Statistics, 1910 It is believed that the statistical features of this report are more complete and accurate than ever, and their importance as a basic source of information with reference to general labor conditions in Washington cannot be overestimated. Statistics have been compiled relating to practically all lines of labor employed in the state, and by comparison with reports of former years it is quite apparent that wage-earners are as uniformly employed and well paid as at any previous time since Washing ton was admitted to statehood. On the other hand, it will be observed from the chapter dealing with the cost of living that prices of food commodities exhibit a steady upward tendency, this being. Particularly true of a large list of staple articles which enter into common household use in all families. From all the facts assembled as the results of investigations by this bureau, and from reports of labor organizations, it is quite evi dent that wages have failed to keep pace with advanced living ex penses. Some method of adjusting this unsatisfactory situa tion is a crying necessity. About the Publisher Forgotten Books publishes hundreds of thousands of rare and classic books.
