Capnography

Book Description

In recent years capnography has gained a foothold in the medical field and is fast becoming a standard of care in anaesthesiology and critical care medicine. In addition, newer applications have emerged which have expanded the utility of capnographs in a number of medical disciplines. This new edition of the definitive text on capnography reviews every aspect of this valuable diagnostic technique. An introductory section summarises the basic physiology of carbon dioxide generation and transport in the body. A technical section describes how the instruments work, and a comprehensive clinical section reviews the use of capnography to diagnose a wide range of clinical disorders. Edited by the world experts in the technique, and with over 40 specialist contributors, Capnography, second edition, is the most comprehensive review available on the application of capnography in health care.

Flow and Measurement of Air and Gases (Classic Reprint)

Book Description

Excerpt from Flow and Measurement of Air and Gases For those who are ready to accept any formula without caring how it is arrived at or what values of the constants are included, this book will not perhaps be of much interest, as it is largely concerned with those very points. But for those who want to know upon what foundations graphs and formulae are based it should be of value. As regards subject-matter Chapters II. And III. Deal with the flow in pipes; Chapters IV. To VII. Deal chiefly with pneumatic tube problems Chapters VIII. To X. Deal with the measurement of air and gas, about which little information is given in books on air compressors, and include a description of the recent development of hot-wire anemometers Chapters XI. To XIV. Deal shortly with some subsidiary questions relating to air flow. Some of the graphs are plotted on logarithmically ruled paper, which deserves to be much better known in this country. A few abaci are included, these being a very convenient form of graphical chart. The metric symbols cm, kg, m are printed without a full stop, as is customary in French and German journals. The numbering of figures, equations, and tables is done consecutively for each chapter, not for the book as a whole. Use is made of the to differentiate between the chapter number and figure number, viz. 31, etc. I shall be glad if attention is drawn to any mistakes and errors which may have crept into the formulae and tables in this connection it may be stated that the constants in the formulae have only been calculated upon a slide rule and may be 5 per cent. Out. Such inaccuracy is immaterial in ordinary air and gas work, as the varying conditions of the atmosphere cause the specific volume of air to vary much more than 5 per cent. From day to day, or even from hour to hour. About the Publisher Forgotten Books publishes hundreds of thousands of rare and classic books. Fluid Flow Measurement

Book Description

There is a tendency to make flow measurement a highly theoretical and technical subject but what most influences quality measurement is the practical application of meters, metering principles, and metering equipment and the use of quality equipment that can continue to function through the years with proper maintenance have the most influence in obtaining quality measurement. This guide provides a review of basic laws and principles, an overview of physical characteristics and behavior of gases and liquids, and a look at the dynamics of flow. The authors examine applications of specific meters, readout and related devices, and proving systems. Practical guidelines for the meter in use, condition of the fluid, details of the entire metering system, installation and operation, and the timing and quality of maintenance are also included. This book is dedicated to condensing and sharing the authors' extensive experience in solving flow measurement problems with design engineers, operating personnel (from top supervisors to the newest testers), academically-based engineers, engineers of the manufacturers of flow meter equipment, worldwide practitioners, theorists, and people just getting into the business. - The authors' many years of experience are brought to bear in a thorough review of fluid flow measurement methods and applications - Avoids theory and focuses on presentation of practical data for the novice and veteran engineer - Useful for a wide range of engineers and technicians (as well as students) in a wide range of industries and applications

Techniques and Topics in Flow Measurement

Book Description

Techniques and Topics in Flow Measurement covers the applications and techniques of flow measurement. This definitive book provides guidelines for choosing appropriate techniques and assuring valid measurements as well as describes methods for treatment of calibration data in fluid flow under various conditions. The book also covers three systems of units: the SI system, the English Absolute Dimensional system, and the English Engineering system. Commonly used - and often misused - variables such as force, weight, and pressure are defined, and the relationships between the systems for these common variables are summarized. One of the many unique features of Techniques and Topics in Flow Measurement is the number of ready-to-use tables included throughout the text. Tables are provided for such commonly encountered variables as the saturation vapor pressure of water; the composition of dry air; the compressibility factor for air; air-free and air-saturated water density; viscosity of dry air, nitrogen, and other gases; and specific heat/specific volume ratios for dry air, water vapor, and moist air. Another unique feature of this book is the number of highly relevant examples. The author includes examples/exercises that demonstrate applications for density calculations; water vapor mixing ratio determination; gas viscosity interpolation; NIST guideline applications; buoyancy corrections; and more.
