For The Sake of My Sanity

Book Description

Speaking the truth of life realities, having internal showers. As a child of God, sometimes we think we can run away from our personal pain. Some of us get distracted with helping everyone else, while sinking in deep despair, silently going insane even though no one really knows but then something happened like the death of your children and you find yourself standing at the brink of insanity, too weak to pull yourself from the edge. As a single mother, left with the charge of being the bread winner, protector, councilor, to give guidance and emotional support to your children even though you find yourself trapped in the body of a child, dealing with traumas from the past. When you hit rock bottom, you hit it hard, either you will sink or swim. It is not a shame to fall, when you fall there is nowhere else to go, but up. So my writing is like my personal shrink, which allows me to maintain my sanity in the era of Covid-19, the social unrest that came about with George Floyd’s death and the tension you feel as an immigrant and the war for mask wearing ‘to mask or not to mask’ ‘to vaccine or not to vaccine’. Then suddenly everything changed when I got a phone call from Jamaica said my son died in a car accident because someone ran the red light while he was on his way to work. It made me feel like someone shot me in the heart, leaving me paralyzed with a permanent hole in my heart. Just when I felt like I was coming to grips of losing my first child who passed away in 2018, God is helping me to deal with the pain by using me to help someone else to bear their pain. I write to stay sane.

I Can Fix This

Book Description

From the author of Hold On, But Don’t Hold Still, the emotionally charged and eye-opening account of a mother who navigates the cacophony of best practices and urgent advice from parenting authorities in search of a way to support her teen as he maps his own path to mental health. When Kristina Kuzmič started to see signs that her otherwise sunny, resilient teenage son was struggling, she was sure a few simple fixes could right the ship. But over the following months, the issues her family faced became more nuanced, complicated, and pervasive than she could've predicted—and what began as a clear to do list spiraled into an emotionally fraught and seemingly endless push and pull between signs of progress and overwhelming fear. Despite her best efforts, Kuzmič had internalized a set of obligations, ideas, and unrealistic standards from parenting culture and social media that left her unprepared to guide her child when he needed her most. Featuring an urgent and affirming foreword by renowned and New York Times bestselling clinician Dr. Shefali Tsabary—Kuzmič's new book debunks ten "parenting truths” that kept her in crisis, and delves into her insecurities and the mistakes she made to reveal invaluable lessons and transformative approaches that worked. While her family stands on the other side now stronger than ever, Kuzmič's journey calls to parents who have felt the instinct to say “I can fix this” in situations where good intentions far exceed our abilities to enact change.

My Melissa

Book Description

George and Arthur are identical twins, both are in college and living in late 1930s America. They come from a rich upper class Baltimore family. Their father had been taking the family on summer vacations to Miami Beach. Finding Miami Beach to be too crowded, the father changes directions and takes the family to a remote and less known vacation resort in South Carolina. There the boys meet and fall head over rich privileged heels in love with a beautiful local girl who works as a cleaning girl who cleans the rental vacation cottages. When they return the next year they start up a full blown love and sexual affair with the girl, Melissa. The girl falls in love with them; both of them. Both brothers want to marry the girl. The situation lead to quite a rivalry between the two brothers which could lead to a serious break between them in the family. The problem is that Melissa said she wants to marry BOTH men. She says that she loves them both equally and cannot choose between them. In the end she refuses to choose between them saying that if they will not agree to a three-way marriage she will live with them both in a menage-a-twa arrangement anywhere. While that could be worked out in backwoods mountain country, it would be totally unacceptable in straight laced conservative Baltimore Brahmin society. The boys do not want to leave their family home and situation. By a series of events that include a savage barroom between the brothers and locals over the girl, a fight in which one of the brothers seriously mutilates a knife welding redneck thug, facing possible serious danger from angry locals who falsely blame the girl for provoking the fight, the girl comes home with the boys to live with them as a cleaning girl in the family home in Baltimore, much to the chagrin of the boys straight laced mother. At home behind closed doors, the boys carry on in secret the affair they started in Carolina. At their sister's wedding reception both of the brothers propose to the girl with the one she does not choose agreeing to drop out of the picture. Sill as much of a stubborn hillbilly girl as she was when they first met her, Melissa again refuses to choose between them. The issue unresolved as ever, the affair otherwise continues in secret at the family house. The years roll on, Melissa marries out of necessity, but which one did she choose? Find out how this convoluted love affair ends.
