Excerpt from Fortifications Bill, 1918: Hearings Before Subcommittee of House Committee on Appropriations, Consisting of Messrs. Swagar Sherley, Chairman, George W. Rauch, John J. Eagan, Frederick H. Gillett, and James W. Good, in Charge of the Fortifications Appropriation Bill For the insular possessions it included eight 12-inch guns mounted for long-range fire and seventeen 3-inch antiaircraft guns; and for' the Panama Canal it included four 16-inch guns, four 12-inch guns mounted for long-range fire. Twelve 16-inch mortars, and eight 3-inch antiaircraft guns. Mr. Sherley. General, in order that the record may show it, it is' well to state here that this bill does not carry the appropriations for the Panama Canal.
