Published: Photobooks in Sweden is the first survey and study of the history of photobooks in Sweden - from the earliest examples from 1860s with glued in albumen prints to the contemporary photobook that expanded the idea of what a book can be.Published has a unique perspective since it focuses on the practitioners engaged in the photobook, and together create the scene of photobooks.Ten of the most influential photographers, publishers, designers, collectors, librarians, writers and booksellers in Sweden are interviewed about their work and views on the photobook. The interviews show that the photobook culture is a truly international phenomenon. The books in Published: Photobooks in Sweden are grouped in three different themes that are crucial for photography and reflect the content of the books: Society, Ego and Image. The historical background and development of the photobook culture in Sweden is the target of the introductory essay.Published: Photobooks in Sweden is part of a research project by Hasselblad Foundation and Valand Academy at University of Gothenburg entitled Photography in Print & Circulation.

This book provides a comprehensive treatment of the role Nordic countries have played as exporters and importers of gender equality policies, and of how Europeanisation has framed the development and harmonisation of legislation and politics between the countries, with global consequences. The diverse range of contributors present the argument that the European Union increasingly exerts influence on Nordic equality policy, without undermining the recent significance of the Nordic countries’ gender policy as models for countries all over the world . It demonstrates that differentiation and variation at national and regional levels in the Nordic countries, as well as in Europe in general, matter as much as integrational processes and inner adaptation to EU legislation and international laws. This book explores the limitations of the Europeanisation process and the political diversity of national and regional policies, together with the crucial ways practices in the family life and the labour market concerning gender equality depend on cultural and religious norms and group interests. Nordic Gender Equality Policy in a Europeanisation Perspective is a key text for students and researchers seeking to understand the interrelations of Nordic and European Union gender policies.

The miracle of life—for a new generation. The completely revised fifth edition of the beloved classic offers an astonishing glimpse of the world within the womb alongside authoritative advice for expectant parents. Deep inside a woman’s body, a miracle occurs. An egg and sperm meet and a new human being is created. Through the unique photographs of Lennart Nilsson, we see the fascinating process of fertilization unfold and watch as an embryo develops from a tiny cluster of cells into a fetus, growing and maturing day by day until the time comes to meet the world outside the womb. The book also describes pregnancy from a parent's perspective, diving into maternity care, health during pregnancy, prenatal testing, and labor and delivery. First published nearly fifty years ago, A Child Is Born broke astonishing new ground, bringing the magic of pregnancy and birth to life. This is the fifth edition of the beloved international classic, which teams Nilsson’s classic medical photographs with new documentary photographs by Linda Forsell and a revised text by professor Lars Hamberger and midwife Gudrun Abascal.

“Page after page reveals an unreal world. . . . Socialites in their mansions, film stars by their pools. . . . Aarons earned the trust of the very rich—Jackie Kennedy, Princess Grace of Monaco, Imelda Marcos—and the very famous—Cary Grant, Marilyn Monroe, Errol Flynn—as well as a passing parade of young women at play on yachts, at exclusive beach resorts or in their expensive homes.” —The Guardian Slim Aarons: Women explores the central subject of Slim Aarons’s career—the extraordinary women from the upper echelons of high society, the arts, fashion, and Hollywood. The book presents the women who most influenced Aarons’s life and work—and the other remarkable personalities he photographed along the way—including Audrey Hepburn, the Duchess of Windsor, Diana Vreeland, Esther Williams, Marianne Faithful, and Marlene Dietrich, all featured in unforgettable photographs. The collection contains more than 250 images, the majority of which have not appeared in previous books, along with detailed captions written by one of Aarons’s closest colleagues, Laura Hawk. Hawk writes in her introduction, “Slim’s visual narratives give us an intime glimpse into the world of the upper classes and their rituals in the pursuit of leisure. That his half century of work continues to captivate successive generations of admirers—and that this is the fifth book published of his photography—reveals not only a yearning for an irretrievable time gone by but also a universal fascination with the seeming forbidden worlds of wealth and privilege.” Showcasing beautiful women at their most glamorous in some of the most dazzling locations across the globe, Slim Aarons: Women is a fresh look at the acclaimed photographer through the muses who inspired his most incredible photographs.

Gender After Gender in Consumer Culture provides an updated discussion of how gender cuts across consumer culture, in light of increasing gender fragmentation and integration with other identity positions. Sex, the biological distinction male/female, and gender, which refers to a person’s sense of being male, female, or any other combinations of these, inform issues as varied as personal identity, social interactions, and market behaviours. First, contributions account for the increasing fluidity and/or fragmentation of gender positions, which reshape the interplay between consumers and marketers. Second, they provide a timely illustration of how consumption and markets concur in contrasting gender inequalities, taken both individually and jointly (e.g., at the intersection of ethnicity or positions of market marginalisation). Third, chapters question the role of gender in granting personal and societal well-being, as they reflect on the collective capacity of constantly undoing gender stereotypes. Focusing on gender, this book allows the reader to trace the links among cultural categories (e.g. masculinity, femininity, gender identity), social phenomena, and market (dis)functioning. The chapters in this book were originally published as a special issue in the journal Consumption Markets & Culture.

The rectangle?s sharp stare' is Jenny Källman?s (b. 1973) most recent photographic book, nominated for the prestigious Swedish Photo Book Award 2016. 0In the photographic series The Rectangle?s Sharp Stare Källman has turned her gaze towards closed rooms such as prison cells, exploring the idea that they resemble a camera in the way that light is subjected to control and only allowed in under certain circumstances. Using this as her point of departure, she has explored the spaces from a very fundamental, immediate, and physical point of view. What emerges from the darkness? What lies in the privilege of being able to choose where you want to be? What happens to a person when their ability to act is limited to the very narrowest space, when their choices are minimized?
