Hjort's 1926 Booklet of Roses, Evergreens, Flowering Shrubs, Fruit and Nut Trees (Classic Reprint)

Book Description

Excerpt from Hjort's 1926 Booklet of Roses, Evergreens, Flowering Shrubs, Fruit and Nut Trees We could not appropriate the joy of lovely Roses and other things here to ourselves alone, visitors are always welcome and not expected to buy every time they come. Good drives are maintained through the nurseries, and there are no gates to open. No permission is necessary, drive through any day in the year. The territory we serve is in the main Florida, south Alabama and Georgia, where good roads generally prevail, and in the coming year we look for a great many more visitors through the nursery fields. In the tests of Roses we have led the Southeast a long time. We have just the conditions for growing fine Roses, and we do grow them. We don't claim that we grow all the good ones, there are other reliable firms in the southeast; but none excel ours. Not only in Roses, but in evergreens and deciduous flowering trees and shrubs, we have developed our enterprise to the extent that we have a well-rounded collection of plants for Georgia, Florida (except tropical) and the coastal sections. To meet an ever-increasing demand, last Winter we organized a landscape depart ment, and will undertake a limited amount of this work in the coming season. We wish to warn prospective customers that the only way to be sure of getting stock from us is to buy it from us. Our solicitors drive machines carrying the signs Thomasville Nurseries, Home of Roses. Orders given to other traveling solicitors do not reach us. The bulk of our sales however, come from parties sending their orders through the mails after consulting the catalogue. We believe our twenty-eight years of experience here are worth something to those who may be interested in securing the proper trees and shrubs for the home grounds. Preparation has been made for the prompt handling of business in the 1926 season, and we pledge ourselves toward rendering faithful service.
