Luther

Book Description

Written by one of the world's greatest authorities on Martin Luther, this is the definitive biography of the central figure of the Protestant Reformation. “A brilliant account of Luther’s evolution as a man, a thinker, and a Christian. . . . Every person interested in Christianity should put this on his or her reading list.”—Lawrence Cunningham, Commonweal “This is the biography of Luther for our time by the world’s foremost authority.”—Steven Ozment, Harvard University “If the world is to gain from Luther it must turn to the real Luther—furious, violent, foul-mouthed, passionately concerned. Him it will find in Oberman’s book, a labour of love.”—G. R. Elton, Journal of Ecclesiastical History

God, Man, and Devil

Book Description

God, Man, and Devil is an anthology of five Yiddish plays in translation, plus two additional independent scenes, all written by well-known playwrights in the first quarter of the twentieth century. The settings range widely--a luxurious parlor, a haunted graveyard, a farmyard, a sweatshop on strike, a subway, and the boardwalk of Atlantic City. The plays evoke tears and laughter through melodrama, expressionism, satire, fantasy, farce, suspense, and romance. But all consider the same question: what is life's moral purpose? And all display the theatrical flair that made Yiddish audiences such passionate fans of their dramas and their stars. Translated and edited to make them more accessible for both reading and performance, the plays are accompanied by prefaces and notes to help students of theater and of Jewish culture by providing historical context, production histories, and elucidation of references.

God, Man, and Satan

Book Description

Treating John Milton's Paradise Lost as a Christian vision of reality and Bunyan’s Pilgrim’s Progress as an allegory of the Christian life, Roland Mushat Frye brings together two seventeenth-century works in this highly original literary study. He sees the writings both as art and as theological expression, and his analysis penetrates each aspect. Paradise Lost (once considered a monument to dead ideas) and Bunyan’s work are found to speak with relevance to today’s theological ferment; and the contributions of such modern thinkers as Kierkegaard, Niebuhr, and Tillich illumine the design of the two works. The author’s imagination and literary insight give fresh perspective to two English classics. Originally published in 1960. The Princeton Legacy Library uses the latest print-on-demand technology to again make available previously out-of-print books from the distinguished backlist of Princeton University Press. These editions preserve the original texts of these important books while presenting them in durable paperback and hardcover editions. The goal of the Princeton Legacy Library is to vastly increase access to the rich scholarly heritage found in the thousands of books published by Princeton University Press since its founding in 1905.

God, the Devil and Man

Book Description

What can a person write or speak about religion that hasn’t been written or spoken before? Frankly and truthfully not very much. It would seem that religion together with the future of humankind is presently in the hands of religious masters whom are experts at their trade. As much as people are content with the present situation there are as many whom are dissatisfied and amongst the dissatisfied are a few who strive to find a reason behind this chaos. Religion presently is a foundering ship that must not be allowed to die without revealing the best it has. With the world in a state of turmoil and ignorance and the most dangerous contribution being religion, let us attempt to analyse and derive what is causing this turmoil. This is no meagre or easy a task to accomplish nor is accepted religious knowledge wholly sufficient. All human knowledge in the form of Mathematic, science, biology, geography, philosophy and a host of others are essential and compulsory to integrate into religion if a person honestly seeks to find the reason and factors behind ignorance and turmoil. The history of human beings is another compulsory subject that must be added to the mix. As a Muslim I have chosen to concentrate on Judaism, Christianity and Islam.

God, Man and the Devil

Book Description

God, Man and the Devil portray the distinctiveness of the three entities within the world. God, Man and the Devil personifies the manifestation of life in the spiritual and divides of the human experience. Of such, it depicts the spiritual contents of the threshold of Godas mandate for the good of the humanity. Thus, mankind is urged to look at all the principle of rightness that is circumscribed within the word of God. God is the common thread of the human experience in every account of religion, rituals and beliefs. Moreover, his word is the impressive witness that attests to the portrayal of the truth, for it appropriates the spirited values of life that is inferred by obedience to all that worship him in spirit and truth. Anthropology depicts the science of the human experience in relation to the physical awareness of customs, social relationships and cultural characteristics of humanity. These are the things which portrays all the inducements of mankind interventions, traits and practical concerns for is existence in this life. These things govern themselves in many ways through the patterns and standards of responsibility that is unduly imposed by society as a caricature for the moral equity of probity. Yet, the bible said that man is an unregenerate being that is unable to assimilate that which is good as a prerequisite for holiness. Therefore, mankind is dependent upon God for spiritual enlightenment and rejuvenation, primarily because of the continual disregard for the reverberation of all the principles of rightness through the supplanting vices of the evil one. The proofs that are written in scripture recognize the truth of the Christian gospel, it is indicative of thevindication of obedience, which demands an extraordinary effort of balance and determination for the resolve of Godas ways.

God, Man, The Devil

Book Description

Ladies and gentlemen, my name is Louis Alfonso Melendez. My family and I reside in Tolleson, Arizona. I decided to write and name the book God, Man, the Devil for the special reason of sending a message to all people who don't know or have knowledge about God. In writing this book, I break down God's character, who God is, what God expects from His creation, who was the Devil originally, and what is the Devil's role in this world and life we live in. This book has good information, especially for this era we're living out, the end times! Thank you and much blessings to the reader!
