Karakas

Book Description

"Karakas" is Sanskrit for "Causes..". as in what is instrumental in causing something to happen or exist. In one famous verse, "Kara," the root word, is used in describing the One Supreme God Krishna as the "Cause of Everything." Saturn rules over "Obstacles," so Saturn is the Karaka of Obstacles. Riches are ruled by Jupiter, Beauty by Venus, and so on. This book gives the student and professional astrologer a listing of what each Planet, Sign and House rules over - of what people, subjects and areas of life it is the 'Karaka', 'Significator', 'Ruler' or 'Indicator'. Karakas are the root of astrological readings. The astrologer studies the placement of planets in specific signs and houses and paints a picture of the native's life using a blending of what those placements indicate. The better the astrologer understands all the possible Karakas, the more accurate and rich the reading can be. This collection of Karakas was assembled by Das Goravani, creator of the popular astrology software "Goravani Jyotish," and to gather them, he used as many authoritative, recognized books as he could find, including the Vedic Classics like the Brihat Parashara Hora Sastra, and Jataka Parijata, and Saravali, as well as so many more. By an exhaustive effort, he compiled this listing, from the most original and reliable sources. For ease of use, the Karakas are listed four ways: alphabetically, by House, by Planet and by Sign. A glossary explains Sanskrit and astrological terms. This is THE Karaka Desk Reference to own, as it contains the most complete collection that we know of to date of Karakas derived from the classics, as they relate to Vedic or Hindu Astrology.

Fundamentals of Astrology

Book Description

Astrology is both Science and Art. Hence only the talented can appreciate and understand it. Rightly Visnugupta declares that nobody other than a sage can master the ocean-like science of astrology. The great Varahamihira declares, "No sin will creep into a place that is sanctified by the presence of a true astrologer. No person who studies and divines the course of destiny will ever be found in hell but will reside permanently in the world of Brahman. This book brings to the fore not only the rationality of astrology but also the nature and structure of the correct knowledge that our forefathers possessed regarding the predictable influences of planets on human beings, and gives a spiritual bias to astrology. The reader is taken step by step in this work from the rudiments Viz., the distribution of constellations in the Zodiacal belt which is divided into twelve Signs, and the planetary hierarchy, through the method of calculating the ascendant and other houses of a natal chart, assessment of the strengths, influences, aspects, affliction, mutual relations etc., of the planets, to the final stage of reading the brighter and darker sides of the subject's life, his chances of success and failure, their periods, ingress of the soul into the mortal coil and exit there form as well as its departure to other worlds according to its karma. "In this book, an attempt has been made to give a good account of the science of astrology, with a view to making the reader a good and true astrologer. It also shows that astrology does not make a man a fatalist, helpless automation in the hands of a merciless Fate. It should, on the other hand, help him to take to self-exertion and self-help. This hoary lore, according to the author, is to be practised not for selfish ends but to guide the needy and the distressed, to remove the cause of their suffering and to turn their attention towards God.

Yoga of the Planets

Book Description

This book has many uses. In itself it is a meditation. You can enjoy and benefit without any special prior knowledge. There are insights into astrology but the main focus is enlightening the consciousness and providing a rebalancing of the energies represented by the planets. This will happen automatically as one reads through the mantras and their commentaries. There are 108 names expressed as mantras for each of the nine planets used in Vedic Astrology. These mantras activate the positive values of the planet throughout the Zodiac. For the first time ever, the mantras are listed with translation and commentary. Even if you only read the commentaries, you will get some of the benefit. If the planet is weak or afflicted, then this acts as a remedy. If it already strong, this helps to enliven its full potential. Easy techniques are also given that will allow you to find out which of the mantras will especially enliven your personal chart and, hence, have the greatest benefit for you. There is also a bonus section at the end which, for the first time, explains the sequence and lengths of the famous Vimshottari Dasha and gives new insights into how to interpret them. This system of prediction is so remarkable that even Western Astrologers often use it.
