This document is the Final Management Plan for Gulf of the Farallones National Marine Sanctuary (GFNMS), resulting from a management plan review of the sanctuary, the first since the implementation of its final regulations in 1981. The National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) has prepared the plan in cooperation with sanctuary staff, the public, state and federal agencies, stakeholders, and the Gulf of the Farallones Sanctuary Advisory Council.

The management plan helps the site to set annual project priorities that are part of the annual operating plan. Actions plans or areas of focus within the Gulf of the Farallones plan include Education and Outreach, Ecosystem Protection, Partnerships with Community Groups, Conservation Science and Administration. Issues addressed include ecosystem protection, wildlife disturbance, vessel discharge, water quality, introduced species, and ocean noise. The plan lays the foundation for restoring and protecting the sanctuary's ecosystem; details the human pressures that threaten the qualities and resources of the sanctuary; and recommends actions that should be taken both now and in the future to better manage the area and resources.
