Early in the morning, while Lucy was in bed, the sun shone through the window upon her face, and wakened her; when she was quite awake, she knew that it was morning, because it was daylight; and she called to her mother and said, Mamma, may I get up 1 But her mother did not answer her, for she did not hear what she said, because she was asleep: when Lucy knew that her mother was asleep, she lay still, that she might not disturb her, until she heard her mother stir; and then she asked her again if she might get up, and her mother said she might.
