Heterogeneous Computing & Multidisciplinary Applications

Book Description

This symposium brought together technology providers, application program developers, and industrial users of high performance computing systems. The articles address the current and future developments of computing systems for numerical simulation seen from these various viewpoints. The main issues raised include these questions:

Heterogeneous Computing

Book Description

If you look around you will find that all computer systems, from your portable devices to the strongest supercomputers, are heterogeneous in nature. The most obvious heterogeneity is the existence of computing nodes of different capabilities (e.g. multicore, GPUs, FPGAs, ...). But there are also other heterogeneity factors that exist in computing systems, like the memory system components, interconnection, etc. The main reason for these different types of heterogeneity is to have good performance with power efficiency. Heterogeneous computing results in both challenges and opportunities. This book discusses both. It shows that we need to deal with these challenges at all levels of the computing stack: from algorithms all the way to process technology. We discuss the topic of heterogeneous computing from different angles: hardware challenges, current hardware state-of-the-art, software issues, how to make the best use of the current heterogeneous systems, and what lies ahead. The aim of this book is to introduce the big picture of heterogeneous computing. Whether you are a hardware designer or a software developer, you need to know how the pieces of the puzzle fit together. The main goal is to bring researchers and engineers to the forefront of the research frontier in the new era that started a few years ago and is expected to continue for decades. We believe that academics, researchers, practitioners, and students will benefit from this book and will be prepared to tackle the big wave of heterogeneous computing that is here to stay.

Computational Frameworks

Book Description

Computational Frameworks: Systems, Models and Applications provides an overview of advanced perspectives that bridges the gap between frontline research and practical efforts. It is unique in showing the interdisciplinary nature of this area and the way in which it interacts with emerging technologies and techniques. As computational systems are a dominating part of daily lives and a required support for most of the engineering sciences, this book explores their usage (e.g. big data, high performance clusters, databases and information systems, integrated and embedded hardware/software components, smart devices, mobile and pervasive networks, cyber physical systems, etc.). - Provides a unique presentation on the views of frontline researchers on computational systems theory and applications in one holistic scope - Cover both computational science and engineering - Bridges the gap between frontline research and practical efforts

Computer Supported Cooperative Work in Design II

Book Description

This book constitutes the thoroughly refereed post-proceedings of the 9th International Conference on Computer Supported Cooperative Work in Design, CSCWD 2005, held in Coventry, UK, in May 2005. The 65 revised full papers presented were carefully reviewed and selected from numerous submissions during at least two rounds of reviewing and improvement.

Data Intensive Computing Applications for Big Data

Book Description

The book ‘Data Intensive Computing Applications for Big Data’ discusses the technical concepts of big data, data intensive computing through machine learning, soft computing and parallel computing paradigms. It brings together researchers to report their latest results or progress in the development of the above mentioned areas. Since there are few books on this specific subject, the editors aim to provide a common platform for researchers working in this area to exhibit their novel findings. The book is intended as a reference work for advanced undergraduates and graduate students, as well as multidisciplinary, interdisciplinary and transdisciplinary research workers and scientists on the subjects of big data and cloud/parallel and distributed computing, and explains didactically many of the core concepts of these approaches for practical applications. It is organized into 24 chapters providing a comprehensive overview of big data analysis using parallel computing and addresses the complete data science workflow in the cloud, as well as dealing with privacy issues and the challenges faced in a data-intensive cloud computing environment. The book explores both fundamental and high-level concepts, and will serve as a manual for those in the industry, while also helping beginners to understand the basic and advanced aspects of big data and cloud computing.
