All are within easy reach of the city. The Grand Theatre provides high class motion pictures, drama, comedy and vaudeville. Fire Protection. - Kinston is afforded ample fire protection, its equipment consist ing of two motor companies, two hook and ladder companies, and two reel teams, all served by trained volunteer firemen, under the direction of a trained fire chief. Additional equip ment is contemplated in the near future which will place the city's fire-fighting equipment beyond the requirements. Water. - Kinston is supplied entirely from artesian wells, analysis proving the supply to be the best east of the Rocky Mountains. Hotels - Adequate facilities are furnished for the traveling public by Kinston's lead ing hotels, the Tull and the Caswell, augmented by several smaller hostelries. City Directory, 1924, Vol. 15: Embracing an Alphabetical List of Business, Houses and Private Citizens, a Directory of the City, County, State and National Governments, Fire Alarm Boxes, Churches, Public and Private Schools, Secret and Benevolent Institutions, Banks It is both important as a port and an industrial city, while it is the pivotal point for a rich and large agricultural area, and is the trading center for fully people, the city being their nearest, as well as largest, market. As a port, it possesses a fresh water harbor 28 miles from the bar. Ice is an unknown quantity in the river, which has a deep water channel, up and down which go big ocean steamers. Bound for Europe, Latin America and other foreign shores. Its exportations and importations are large and ever growing, which mark a successful port. As a cotton port it yearly sends forth upward of several hundred thousand bales per year, and this record is evidently going to be surpassed. Its imports cover a large field in variety and come from practically every quarter of the globe. Within the past year or two the population of Wilmington has increased in a tremendous way, and' it is now a city of about population, housed in comfortable homes. To accommodate the in creasing population not only did individuals build homes, but the citizens formed What is known as the Victory Home Company, with an authorized capital of a million dollars and pa'id IN OF $250, to erect houses, which object has been successfully carried out.
