Success with nursery stock in large measure depends upon its treatment after arrival. The natural place for the roots is in the ground. As soon as stock is received it should at once be planted or heeled in so that mellow earth will come in contact with the roots. When plant ing take out but a few at a time - an hour's exposure of the roots to hot sun or wind is sure death to many trees. Particularly is this the case with evergreens - when once the roots are dry, no amount of soaking will restore them to their normal condition.
