Imaging of Trabecular Microfracture and Bone Marrow Edema and Hemorrhage

Book Description

This excellently illustrated monograph summarizes the updated fresh information on the theoretical, practical, and rapidly extended facets of gamma correction 99mTc-hydroxymethylene diphosphonate pinhole bone scan (99mTc-GCPBS) to MRI, CR, and MDCT. Basically, 99mTc-GCPBS is able to precisely visualize and quantitate callused trabecular microfracture (CTMF) which is as little as 200 μm in size. The extended gamma correction images can very neatly demonstrate CTMF on MRI, conventional radiography (CR), and multidetector computed tomography (MDCT). Whenever appropriate, histological correlation is provided in conjunction with fine gamma corrected images. In this setting, ACDSee 10 gamma correction MRI and CR have been found to offer a highly useful option that deserves wider clinical interest. In practice, gamma correction MRI, CR, and MDCT can distinctly visualize CTMF so that CTMF can be precisely measured simply using an optic lens. By comparison, the naïve MRI, for example, shows CTMF which measures as big as 2 mm in size. Furthermore, 99mTc-GCPBS can now differentiate bone marrow edema from hemorrhage using the visuospatial mathematic method, which includes the ImageJ of the NIH.

All-inclusive section on musculoskeletal ultrasound anatomy, as well as a comprehensive interventional section covering muskuloskeletal ultrasound. Approaches musculoskeletal ultrasound from two different viewpoints: that of a specific diagnosis (Dx section), followed by that of a specific ultrasound appearance (DDx section). Differential diagnosis section features supportive images and text outlining the key discriminatory features necessary in reaching the correct diagnosis. Provides a solid understanding of musculoskeletal ultrasound anatomy and pathology.

Combined Scintigraphic and Radiographic Diagnosis of Bone and Joint Diseases

Book Description

In this fourth edition of Combined Scintigraphic and Radiographic Diagnosis of Bone and Joint Diseases, the text has been thoroughly amended, updated, and partially rearranged to reflect the latest advances. In addition to discussing the role of pinhole imaging in the range of disorders previously covered, the new edition pays detailed attention to the novel diagnostic use of gamma correction pinhole bone scan in a broad spectrum of skeletal disorders. A large number of state of the art pinhole scans and corroborative CT, MRI, and/or ultrasound images are presented side by side. The book has been enlarged to encompass various new topics, including occult fractures; cervical sprain and whiplash trauma; bone marrow edema; microfractures of trabeculae; evident, gaping, and stress fractures; soft tissue diseases; and differential diagnosis. This new edition will be essential reading for practitioners and researchers in nuclear medicine, radiology, orthopedic surgery, and pathology.

Bone Tumors

Book Description

Bone Tumors: A Practical Guide to Imaging is a concise guide to common tumors encountered by physicians in daily practice. The authors make use of high-yield facts, differential diagnoses, and extensive radiological images to introduce a wide range of bone tumors, focusing on their classic appearance and location in order to provide readers with a solid foundation of knowledge for tumor recognition and evaluation. The book includes explanations of methods for properly evaluating bone lesions, common imaging modalities used for diagnosis, and individual chapters covering different classes of benign and malignant tumors, including cartilage, osseous, fibrous, miscellaneous, and bone metastases. The book concludes with a comprehensive selection of 75 unknown cases, including brief clinical history, description of imaging findings, best differential diagnoses, and short discussion revealing the most likely diagnosis. Bone Tumors is an ideal resource for practicing physicians and residents in radiology, orthopedic surgery, pathology, and primary care. About the Authors Jim S. Wu, MD, is Assistant Professor of Radiology at Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center, Harvard Medical School. Mary G. Hochman, MD, is Chief of the Section of Musculoskeletal Imaging and Assistant Professor of Radiology at Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center, Harvard Medical School.

Differential Diagnosis of Fracture

Book Description

This book covers diagnostic images of common and rare fractures for nearly every part of the human body, based on a large number of clinical cases. The highlight of this book is that both of three-dimensional X-ray images and CT/MRI images of thousands of fracture cases are presented for comparison and further discussion, according to the framework of AO classification. The first chapter gives a general introduction of various diagnostic imaging techniques for fractures, with attention to their advantages and disadvantages. The following chapters present detailed radiological images of upper extremity fractures, lower extremity fractures, axial skeleton fractures, and epiphyseal lesions. It helps readers to recognize the difference between various diagnostic techniques, and to select optimal imaging techniques.
