In fact, the resources of the parents were often severely taxed to provide food and clothing for their children. It has been said, that the matrons of the Bald Eagle Valley, in early times, employed themselves during the winter 111 spinning flax and tow, and weaving it into cloth for summer use, while, in the summer, they spent their time in manufacturing woolen fabrics for winter wear.
