Specifically, the study sets out to examine the influence of parental occupation on the academic performance of secondary school students in Owerri metropolis of Imo state. It tries to find out whether the size of the family to which they belong affect the students academic performance in Owerri metropolis; and to determine the extent to which type of family would affect the academic performance of students. This study will be delimited to government owned secondary schools in Owerri. Municipal of Imo state Nigeria. Over a period of time, it has been observed the students who are exposed to the same lesson by the same teachers are likely to perform differently when they are evaluated. According to Fagbamiye, the board education or ministry of education world wide suspected teaching methodology and classroom teachers as being the cause at the problem yet it seems to persist. This shows that outside the school environment, students are faced with other factors that influence their academic performances. There is also clear distinction between the gifted children and others, but even at that there are factors that influence the academic of both gifted and non-gifted children which can not be traced to the school environment.

Factors Responsible for Aggressive Behaviour Among Students in Anambra State on their Academic Performance

Academic Paper from the year 2022 in the subject Pedagogy - Adult Education, grade: 5, , language: English, abstract: The paper sought to identify the factor responsible for aggressive behaviour among secondary school student in Anambra State as a correlate to their academic performance. The study adopted correlation survey design. The population of the study was all the 259 guidance and counseling teachers in all the public secondary school in the state. One research questions and one null hypotheses guided the study. A 17-item questionnaire was used for data collection. Analysis was done using mean scores and standard deviation was use to answer the question using independent t-test at 0.05 level of significance. The analysis revealed the following: the family background, regular conflict, at home, peer group influence, poor self concept, drug addiction and mass media are some factors responsible for aggressive behaviour among secondary school students. the study recommend that parents should be role model, have good relationship with their children, know the kind of friends their children keep, be careful with the kind of films and book their children are exposed to.

Specifically, to describe the challenges encountered by school heads on improving school infrastructure for academic performance in rural public secondary schools in Iringa District. The research used a mixed approach and convergent parallel research design. Maslow's theory of hierarchy of needs developed by Abraham Maslow in 1943 was employed to underpin the study. The study used a combination of probability and non-probability through simple random sampling and purposive sampling techniques, respectively, to select the respondents. The data was collected through questionnaires, interviews and observation. The analysis for quantitative data was done using descriptive statistics, with the aid of Statistical Package for Social Science (SPSS) version 21, while qualitative data was coded and categories through thematic analysis.

Two (2) literacy centres were purposively selected and used for this research work. Three (3) research questions were raised and answered in this study. The research design used in this study was survey research design. Simple random sampling technique was used to select 100 learners from the 2 selected literacy centres. Data was collected using 11 items questionnaire and analyzed using frequency, percentages and tables. The study revealed that social interaction or relationship influence learners’ participation in their academic performance, psychological characteristics serve as determinants of participation in learners’ academic performance, and also, economic reasons influence learners’ participation in their academic performance. The researcher recommended that Teacher should build on what is heard from the students and share his/her personal experience with the students in order for the students to feel free in expressing their own worries, stories and interest, literacy centres should demonstrate positive attitudes and learner’s social interaction these can effectively enhance teaching and learning towards the accomplishment of good students’ academic performance in the literacy centres.

It is shocking to discover that the general public is aware of this problem and that it is eating deep into the lives of students from poor family backgrounds because they cannot compete favourably with their fellow students, they exhibit deviant behaviours, have personality and psychological problems, low self esteem/trauma, difficulty in personal and academic adjustment to mention just a few. For this reason this research work, recommended possible solutions as creating an enabling environment for discussion at home after school hours, government/non-governmental organizations to provide support that will augment the efforts of the parents in catering for their children, provision of better nutritional diets to their children, guidance and counseling units be made functional to help counsel students who come from poor family backgrounds among others.
