Modern Flow Analysis

Book Description

Flow analysis is an automatic, precise and fast way to perform analytical tests. Flow instruments are used for clinical and pharmaceutical analyses, quality control of industrial products, monitoring of environmental pollution and many other fields. The book presents the latest methodological, technical and instrumental achievements in flow analysis. It shows new possibilities for the miniaturization and full mechanization of flow systems, together with examples of their interesting application. The proposed solutions contribute to reducing the amount of used reagents and waste, as well as increasing the safety of working with hazardous reagents, resulting in modern devices operating in accordance with the principles of green chemistry. A number of innovative methods of processing and measuring analytical samples have also been described. The book very well reflects the current state of flow analysis and development directions.

X-Ray Spectroscopy

Book Description

X-ray spectroscopy has emerged as a powerful tool in research and in industrial laboratories. It is used in the study of metals, semiconductors, amorphous solids, liquids and gases. This comprehensive presentation develops the subject from its basic principles and relates the theory to experimental observations. The new edition includes topics that have recently become important, for example, the X-ray laser, appearance potential spectroscopy, synchrotron radiation and EXAFS of high-Tc superconducting materials. A thorough introduction, up to research level, isprovided to EXAFS, which has seen rapid development in the past few years. This textbook conveniently presents the principles, applications and current techniques of X-ray spectroscopy, which makes it ideal for graduate students beginning research involving x-ray spectroscopy.

Science of Microscopy

The two-volume work brings together a slew of experts who present comprehensive reviews of all the latest instruments and new versions of the older ones, as well as their associated operational techniques. The chapters draw attention to their principal areas of application. A huge range of subjects are benefiting from these new tools, including semiconductor physics, medicine, molecular biology, the nanoworld in general, magnetism, and ferroelectricity. This fascinating book will be an indispensable guide for a wide range of scientists in university laboratories as well as engineers and scientists in industrial R&D departments.

Transcutaneous Bilirubinometry

Book Description

This book has been written to summarise the available knowledge regarding transcutaneous bilirubinometry, the first technique that allows a completely non-invasive measurement of a clinical variable. This technique led to important changes in the management of neonatal jaundice, the most common clinical condition of new-born infants world-wide. Transcutaneous bilirubinometry has its roots in the old observation that yellow skin colour is due to the deposition of bilirubin, a chromophore molecule. More recently, transcutaneous bilirubinometry has involved many disciplines; and accordingly, this book has contributions from physicists, biologists, paediatric dermatologists and neonatologists who have clinical research expertise in the field of neonatal hyperbilirubinemia. We hope that this book may prompt the advancement of research that will answer the as-yet unanswered questions, improve the reliability and usefulness of transcutaneous bilirubinometry, and respond to the clinical needs of our little patients.
