Trene Plowman is a retired Labor and Delivery R.N., a chef, a Reiki Master, and a Mum to one son-Matthew. Trene loves the magic of reading and stories...and always shared that love with her child by reading to him or creating adventures from her imagination. These were often reflections of her own life experiences or those of her parents and grandparents, and are written with great love. Trene is delighted that with this collection of short stories children will experience the joy of a simpler way of life, and share in the adventures of “A boy named Jake.” She hopes it will inspire them to be lifelong readers and to write down their own stories for themselves and their children

The Enterprise is a fictional City-State formed by a few of the many members of the US Military, Engineers, and Scientists who participated in World War II (WWII), as well as the wars and 'Police Actions' that followed. At first, the Enterprise was merely a privately held company that designed electronic equipment, robot-warriors, and weapons which they sold to the US Armed Services. In order to help pay the bills, one of the Founders of the Company, who was extremely well versed in buying and selling Securities, used his talent for the Company's benefit. After a short time, the Enterprise bought an Island near the Bahama Islands, in the Atlantic Ocean, and declared itself a Country, the Enterprise Isle. The Island was protected from attack by the use of the weapons it had developed. (These weapons may well be the weapons used by the US, its Allies, and its Enemies by 2035). After repeated attacks, these enemy countries, having lost planes and ships, as well as countless members of their armed forces decided not to annoy this new Country. Thus, the Enterprise grew in wealth and gained the respect of the Nations of the world. During the intervening years, it developed an Engineering and a Medical School that were the among the best in the world and employed equipment found nowhere else. By 2020, the Enterprise was one of the 5 wealthiest countries in the world. Its GDP was $10T in 2020, and its philosophy was to trade with any country that would trade fairly with them. Any company, or country, that dealt unfairly, suffered severe consequences. Indeed, it had already become known that the Enterprise had weapons that could destroy any country in the world with little damage to itself. The Enterprise's primary objectives were to provide for its 4 million Citizens, and to try not to interfere in other countries' business. This second item was not always easy to accomplish. After all, we all have friends!

"For as long as Jake Tilson can remember he has always been scared of fish. Mysterious ice-laden market stalls have been sidestepped and intimidating seafood recipes left safely on the shelf, while the few occasions he has attempted to cook it have met with disaster. In at the Deep End sees the award-winning artist, designer, writer and cook finally overcome his last culinary taboo by travelling the globe on a quest to buy, prepare and cook fish and seafood. An evocative, marvellously layered and wonderfully illustrated exploration of Jake's many experiences with fish, this delightful food memoir and recipe book catalogues his journey from fish-phobic to seafood obsessive. Whether cooking mussels in Sydney or sprats in Sweden, visiting the fish markets of Tokyo or snorkelling on the Great Barrier Reef, Jake's unquenchable interest in every aspect of the sea and fish cookery is unstoppable. His acute eye and enticing culinary experiments and recipes make In at the Deep End a book to be read, savoured, used and, above all, enjoyed."--Publisher's description.

This collection brings together Philip Ridley's one-act plays for young people, known as The Storyteller Sequence, ideal for teenagers to either watch or perform. Karamazoo is a fifteen-minute monologue about one of the coolest, most popular kids in the school, whose recent increase in popularity is the direct result of a character make-over following the death of a parent. A witty and moving performance piece for the teenage actor. Fairytaleheart features two fifteen-year-olds, Kirsty and Gideon, who meet for the first time and come to terms with their broken families by sharing their hopes, fears and past experiences - as well as stories - in a derelict community centre. Sparkleshark tells of fourteen-year-old Jake - a victim of bullying and other teenager's mockery - who has to take refuge on the roof of a tower block in order to write his stories. Moonfleece sees Curtis, a young right-wing activist, arrange a meeting in a flat of a derelict tower block where he lived as a child. But his older brother's ghost keeps haunting him. Moonfleece is an intense and thrilling exploration of memory and identity. Brokenville features an unknown disaster, which has left seven characters with little knowledge of who they are or of what has happened. As an old woman and five teenagers begin to act out stories for a mute and frightened child, they begin to discover a little of who they were and what they can be.
