Kite Day

Book Description

On a windy spring day, Bear sniffs the air. Could it be. . . Kite day? Rushing home he tells Mole, and the two fast friends get to work building a kite of their own. They study, and collect, and measure, and construct—and soon, their kite is flying high above the meadow. But when a storm rumbles in—SNAP!—the kite string breaks, and all their hard work soars away. Chasing after it, Mole and Bear discover all is not lost—wedged in the branches of a tree, their kite protects a nest of baby birds from the pouring rain. Will Hillenbrand's Bear and Mole series is the perfect choice for storytime sharing or reading aloud. Strong verbs, repetitive phrases, and fun-to-read sounds keep young listeners and readers engaged with the story, while the gentle illustrations add detail and quiet humor. Kids will delight in poring over these books again and again. Don't miss the other Bear and Mole titles, including All For a Dime, Spring is Here, and First Star!

Mommy and Me at the Boston Kite Festival is set in 1980s Boston. The main characters are five-year-old Okie and his mom, who live in Brigham Circle. While her husband is in his country, Nigeria, performing community service in the youth corp after being educated in America, Okie and his mom enjoy great adventures! One of which is attending the Boston Kite Festival. The pair take a trolley ride, connecting to the subway downtown on to Forest Hills Station. A short bus ride and the two are at the kite festival! Walking through Franklin Park, the aroma from the hot dog and Italian sausage stands and the sight of ice-cream and slush carts all add to the excitement of the Kite Festival. The two plant themselves on a grassy hill covered in soft green grass where Okie can fly his kite! Okies kite is flying high without lots of running. The right position keeps him enjoying his high-flying kite for hours. After a couple of hours, he catches the eye of a reporter, who speaks to Okies mom and is permitted to talk with him about kites.
