Instrumental techniques for analyzing intrinsically disordered proteins The recently recognized phenomenon of protein intrinsic disorder is gaining significant interest among researchers, especially as the number of proteins and protein domains that have been shown to be intrinsically disordered rapidly grows. The first reference to tackle this little-documented area, Instrumental Analysis of Intrinsically Disordered Proteins: Assessing Structure and Conformation provides researchers with a much-needed, comprehensive summary of recent achievements in the methods for structural characterization of intrinsically disordered proteins (IDPs). Chapters discuss: Assessment of IDPs in the living cell Spectroscopic techniques for the analysis of IDPs, including NMR and EPR spectroscopies, FTIR, circular dichroism, fluorescence spectroscopy, vibrational methods, and single-molecule analysis Single-molecule techniques applied to the study of IDPs Assessment of IDP size and shape Tools for the analysis of IDP conformational stability Mass spectrometry Approaches for expression and purification of IDPs With contributions from an international selection of leading researchers, Instrumental Analysis of Intrinsically Disordered Proteins: Assessing Structure and Conformation fills an important need in a rapidly growing field. It is required reading for biochemists, biophysicists, molecular biologists, geneticists, cell biologists, physiologists, and specialists in drug design and development, proteomics, and molecular medicine with an interest in proteins and peptides.

The bestselling resource on industrial chemical assessment just got better. A practical guide to biological monitoring for industrial chemical exposure assessment, the THIRD EDITION of INDUSTRIAL CHEMICAL EXPOSURE: GUIDELINES FOR BIOLOGICAL MONITORING has been completely revised to include the latest developments in the field. In addition to an update of each chapter, major revisions have been made to take into consideration new information available since the publication of the second edition. SEE WHAT'S NEW IN THE THIRD EDITION: Major changes to the sections on lead, benzene, trichloroethylene, and dimethylformamide Fourteen completely new topics: bromine, molybdenum, perchlorate, platinum, n-heptane, ethene, 1,3-butadiene trimethylbenzene, naphthalene, terpenes, acrylamide, pesticides, tetrahydrofuran, methyl tertiarybutyl ether, n-nitrosodiethylamine Discussion of the metabolic fate of chemicals Increased information on the threshold of adverse effects levels Development of biological monitoring methods for assessing the internal dose of additional chemicals This authoritative book summarizes what is known about biological monitoring for inorganic, organic and organometallic substances. It provides a summary table with practical recommendations, giving you quick and easy access to the data. With INDUSTRIAL CHEMICAL EXPOSURE: GUIDELINES FOR BIOLOGICAL MONITORING you will understand the objectives of biological monitoring, the types of biological monitoring methods, their advantages and limitations, as well as practical aspects that must be considered before initiating a biological monitoring program.

The notion of «exposure» underlies much modern thinking about identity, representation, ethics, desire and sexuality. This provocative notion is explored in a collection of essays selected from, and inspired by, the proceedings of a conference held in the Department of French at the University of Cambridge in 2002. The authors engage with exposure as both object and mode of representation in a range of cultural media: literature, critical theory, visual art and film. They analyse a variety of works from the medieval, early-modern, and modern periods, examining not only canonical texts such as Montaigne's Essais but also lesser-studied works such as the psychoanalytic theory of Didier Anzieu, the photomontage self-portraits of Claude Cahun, and the novel La Nouvelle Pornographie by Marie Nimier. This volume thus both illustrates and, more importantly, interrogates the richness of the term «exposure», in a way that is stimulating for students and researchers alike.
