The Complex Book Series.A Lone Planet. One Complex.Unlimited Chaos. thecomplex.info Two thousand years beyond our time, much has changed. Humans, forced to flee Earth after a nuclear holocaust, find themselves in the distant Seldova system. Here, they realize they are not alone. Metas, races of powerful beings, are also forced from their home after environmental tragedies. They come upon the same mecca of planets, beginning a decades-long war with the Humans for land and home. Humans and Metas, weary of fighting, come to an uneasy truce. They cannot co-exist with animosity and bloodlust running high, and together, they propose The Complex: a societal test consisting of two years of comfortable isolation, occupied by both Meta races and Humans. The enticement for those who agree to this co-mingling is enough money to live on for many years. But two years is a long time to live with your enemies. Wezlei, a Human, only knows about the old world from the books his father left behind. He dreams of a better life for his mother, who has surrounded him with love and safety all his life. He takes inspiration from the old tales of Robin Hood and embarks on a life of piracy to balance the unevenness of his world. In no one is this more evident than Tariq, a ruthless Dhampir whose cruelty is unprecedented. When Wezlei witnesses firsthand the horrors the Dhampir inflicts on his メwifeモ Aerwen. one of the last living Dryads whom he has enslaved, he canユt simply turn away. He learns they have signed up for the Complex, and decides he has no choice but to do the same. He has no plan, only a vision: Save Aerwen and put an end to Tariqユs reign of terror. The James Beard Award-winning chef behind some of New Orleans’s most beloved restaurants, including Cochon and Herbsaint, Donald Link unearths true down home Southern cooking in this cookbook featuring more than 100 reicpes. Link rejoices in the slow-cooked pork barbecue of Memphis, fresh seafood all along the Gulf coast, peas and shell beans from the farmlands in Mississippi and Alabama, Kentucky single barrel bourbon, and other regional standouts in 110 recipes and 100 color photographs. Along the way, he introduces all sorts of characters and places, including pitmaster Nick Pihakis of Jim ‘N Nick’s BBQ, Louisiana goat farmer Bill Ryal, beloved Southern writer Julia Reed, a true Tupelo honey apiary in Florida, and a Texas lamb ranch with a llama named Fritz. Join Link Down South, where tall tales are told, drinks are slung back, great food is made to be shared, and too many desserts, it turns out, is just the right amount.

What power makes a seedling burst To escape darkness of its shell? From what great muck is beauty born To emerge radiant from Hell? Please, judge not from mere appearance, As there are great Mysteries here — Beginning with the seed within, A spark that cannot disappear! Fear not the trials of Winter On that road to self-becoming. Prepare instead to boldly bloom, As the Spring is always coming! *This collection includes twelve poems. ---------------------------------------- Sample: Hidden Flame Friction, friction, breathing smoke Within a world most dark! Stoke the embers of the past With lick of precious spark. Smolder, seethe discovery In emptiness of night; Ripple, burn, and manifest Most vital fire bright! Throb with urge for secret warmth, Releasing bitters old; Melt the rigid for the hard, Illuminating bold! Hear it whispered flame to flame Through crackle, pop, and snap: Soaring heat consumes all lost As smoke reveals new map. Kiss me, Love, to glow anew, Ignited by our gaze. Let's dance within these vapors, And feed this mighty blaze.

GUMBO LAGNIAPPE (You’ve Got to Be Kidding) contains original plays, many with public health themes, but others dealing with our fascinating current political and social climate. Several plays were written for this year’s Spectral Sisters Productions Ten-Minute Play Festival for which the theme was “You’ve Got to Be Kidding,” thus the second part of the title. A collection of selected recent medical essays, some of which complement the plays, also add to this literary gumbo, as does a new translation by the author of Moliere’s classic, “Tartuffe.” Together, these new plays, an old classic and some assorted medical essays, offer “lagniappe,” a little extra, to the body of world literature. This small town, Alexandria, stuck in the middle of Louisiana and two hours’ drive (at least) from any larger city, has the advantage of being like a tramp steamer isolated in the immensity of the Indian Ocean. We have learned to entertain ourselves on the trip and this unlikely location has produced a host of plays from many other talented, but unrecognized playwrights. May creative energy continue to bubble forth from this curious location, as far off-Broadway as you can get, but perhaps a bit closer to heaven. My thanks to those who want to explore something new while supporting an undiscovered author from Central Louisiana.

We see many devotional books written today with hopes of getting God’s children to be a devout servant. The church has many spiritual anemic members living day after day on a poor diet of the Holy Scriptures. The idea to write a devotional book came to me under the power of the Holy Spirit. The devotional thoughts with lagniappe came as I gave myself fully to my Lord. Under His leadership, I moved forward in obedience to share my love for the lost and never once had difficulty writing with Parkinson´s. Very few people knew how to spell “lagniappe”, while most everyone knew what it meant and enjoyed the practice of giving or receiving the small extra gift. These devotional thoughts are written in a simple way so to appeal and be understood by all age groups. There is nothing complicated about the love of God. Share the lagniappe with a hug, smile, tender touch, kindness, small gifts, and love.

These are short stories based on musings of a seasoned citizen. Some are preposterous and others just posterous, according to the author. They are sprinkled with oddly named fictional characters, some based on real people. You could call the author a Cracker Barrel philosopher, but that might be an insult to the restaurant chain.

The first full-length volume of poems in a decade by the former poet laureate of the United States In The Back Chamber, Donald Hall illuminates the evocative, iconic objects of deep memory—a cowbell, a white stone perfectly round, a three-legged milking stool—that serve to foreground the rich meditations on time and mortality that run through his remarkable new collection. While Hall’s devoted readers will recognize many of his long-standing preoccupations—baseball, the family farm, love, sex, and friendship—what will strike them as new is the fierce, pitiless poignancy he reveals as his own life’s end comes into view. The Back Chamber is far from being death-haunted, but rather is lively, irreverent, erotic, hilarious, ironic, and sly—full of the life-affirming energy that has made Donald Hall one of America’s most popular and enduring poets.
