Land Glorious

Book Description

The Isle of Faerie is a terrible, glorious, wonderful land. The air is warm, the flowers sweet-smelling… and time no longer means quite what you thought it did. There are broken limbs on the grass, and the rivers want to drown you. Rinaldo Device is stranded in a world where his magic of metal-working means nothing. Without his brother. Without a way home. And the worst secret he’s ever kept is about to come spilling out… Back in London, Flavia and Orlando hurry to put a rescue plan together for Rinaldo and the Gloucester children, but they may already be too late. The Queen of Faerie is out for revenge, and no one can stand in her way. Not even an angry princess, a heartbroken daughter, or a mysterious yellow cat. If you enjoy gaslamp fantasy and faerie Victoriana, you’ll love this third volume in the Sparks & Philtres novella series.

The Meaning and Explanation of the Glorious Qur'an (Vol 6)

Book Description

This is the 2nd edition of volume 6 of the ten volumes of The Meaning And Explanation Of The Glorious Qur'an. The first edition of this book contained many formatting and typing errors. In this new edition, we have corrected all the errors found in the first edition. We have also re-arranged the structure of the book and added the full Arabic Text of the thirty Parts of the Qur'an. The reader is now able to read not only the meaning, the transliteration and the tafsir (explanation) of the Glorious Qur'an but also the full Arabic text as well. Our mission is to gather in one place, for the English-speaking public, all relevant information needed to make the Qur'an more understandable and easier to study. This book tries to do this by providing the following: 1. The Arabic Text for those who are able to read Arabic 2. Transliteration of the Arabic text for those who are unable to read the Arabic script. This will give them a sample of the sound of the Qur'an, which they could not otherwise comprehend from reading the English meaning. 3. The meaning of the qur'an (translated by Dr. Muhammad Taqi-ud-Din Al-Hilali, Ph.D. and Dr. Muhammad Muhsin Khan) 4. Background introductions by two famous Islamic scholars, Maududi and Ibn Kathir 5. Explanation (abridged Tafsir) by Ibn Kathir (translated by Safi-ur-Rahman al-Mubarakpuri) We hope that by doing this an ordinary English-speaker will be able to pick up a copy of this book and study and comprehend The Glorious Qur'an in a way that is acceptable to the understanding of the Rightly-guided Muslim Ummah (Community).

A Glorious Defeat

Book Description

A concise yet comprehensive social history of the Mexican–American War as it was experienced by the people of Mexico. The war that was fought between the United States and Mexico from 1846 to 1848 was a major event in the history of both countries: it cost Mexico half of its national territory, opened western North America to US expansion, and magnified tensions that led to civil wars in both countries. Among generations of Latin Americans, it helped to cement the image of the United States as an arrogant, aggressive, and imperialist nation, poisoning relations between a young America and its southern neighbors. In contrast with many current books that treat the war as a fundamentally American experience, Timothy J. Henderson’s A Glorious Defeat offers a fresh perspective on the Mexican side of the equation. Examining the manner in which Mexico gained independence, Henderson brings to light a greater understanding of that country’s intense factionalism and political paralysis leading up to and through the war.
