Excerpt from Impacts of Changes in Land Use: A Study of an Urban-Rural Area of Southeastern Wisconsin In the six southeastern counties of Wisconsin, the amount of land in farms decreased by 4. 2 percent from 1950 to 1955, the amount of land in cr0ps by 2. 4 per'cent, ' and' the number of milk cows by percent; yet total farm production increased during this period. This increase in farm produc tion during a period of reduction in acreage of land and in number of persons employed in agriculture was largely the result of shifts in cr0ps grown and increased yields from crops and livestock.
