This fortrefs, with their other {trong holds, were to ceafe from afford ing them any protee'tion', and to be taken from the Ifraelites, who were to\be carried captive by their enemies. This event the prophet Micah exprefsly foretold in the following words: Therefore I will make Samaria as an heap of the field, and as planta ings of a vineyard and I will pour down the {tones thereof into the valley, and I will difcover' the foundations thereof 14nd ibe bmgdomfram Dara mafcm. Damafcus was the chief city of Syria, and the royal refidence of their kings. From this city and nation the kingdom was to ceafe: It was no longer to be a feparate kingdom by itfelf, but hence' forward to be fubjeti to foreign powers.
