Legacy Of The General - Part 2

Book Description

LEGACY OF THE GENERAL - Part 2 - A RELUCTANT WHITE KNIGHT novel - Volume 4 Reviewed by the Editorial Board, The Columbia Review of Books & Films “Legacy of the General,” the fourth installment in T.W. Anderson’s “A Reluctant White Knight” series, pulls the hero, Tom Rowter, and his wife, Sunny, into a complicated conflict between powerful forces and launches them on a hazardous mission to fulfill the last wish of an admired friend (the General). Some time ago, when reviewing the first volume in T.W. Anderson’s “A Reluctant White Knight” series, we had this to say: “It combines the best ingredients of the “Texas Rangers” genre fiction, but with highly contemporary suspense, which is further enriched with themes of green energy, aviation and technology. The lead character, Tom Rowter, is a solid anti-hero, a toned-down version of Clint Eastwood at his best. He tells the story in the first person, matter of fact, no hype or showoff (well, maybe a reserved touch of bravado…). He’s cool, aggressive (or even deadly, when necessary), and delivers it all with humor. He clearly has a big heart, which carries a good chunk of pain and guilt, and he can handle a gun. In other words, he’s a good character, someone you would definitely want to spend more time with, literarily speaking.” With the fourth novel in the series, Mr. Anderson maintains the remarkable qualities of his creation, while fleshing out the main characters, expanding the family circle, and revealing new aspects of this evolving saga. “Legacy of the General” picks up a short time after the events of “Seascape’s Aground!” (Vol. 3). The story begins with a few scenes that give the reader—even a new reader—a sure footing in what’s happening in the lives of Tom and Sunny. Meanwhile, a mysterious outfit gears up to take violent action in order to pilfer possession of ‘an item,” which happened to be on its way to Tom posthaste, courtesy of his now-deceased friend. Soon, the suspense rises and bad things start to happen. Mixing in the successful ingredients that made the previous volumes so enjoyable, the author adds in legal wrangling, government conspiracies, IRS and CIA shenanigans, a former U.S. president, and a good measure of sprightly romance and lively action. As before, Tom Rowter, with the conflicted yet incredibly gutsy Sunny, is determined to do the right thing, come hell or high water—or such other bad things as one might expect, either on the ground or in the air. In summary, “Legacy of the General” fulfills the promise of the series, delivering an authentic setting and great action with a lively cast of flesh-and-blood characters, engaged in real-world relationships and embroiled in a risky crisis that gets resolved through the hero’s courage, integrity, and thrilling exploits. The ending, when it comes, is surprising and satisfying. Anderson. Building up on the first two novels, “Seascape Aground” starts off with the bang and only gets better. The story opens with our hero, Tom Rowter, about to board a helicopter for another mission, but held back for a last goodbye kiss from his loving wife, Sunny. For those who trust the feminine sixth sense, this scene provides the reader with the required premonition: Something bad is going to happen. And it does. As the story gets on the way, Tom answers a call to duty, and things get rapidly more complicated. There are good guys and bad guys (and good guys who turn out to be bad), conflict and violence, and difficult choices that bear risky consequences. Will It Be Sunny Tomorrow?

Book Description

Will It Be Sunny Tomorrow? - A Reluctant White Knight novel - Volume 1 Reviewed By: Editorial Board, The Columbia Review of Books & Films 1/13/2015 “Will It Be Sunny Tomorrow?” by T.W. Anderson is the first of seven installments in the “A Reluctant White Knight” series. It combines the best ingredients of the “Texas Rangers” genre fiction, but with highly contemporary suspense, which is further enriched with themes of green energy, aviation and technology. In other words, he’s a good character, someone you would definitely want to spend more time with, literarily speaking. The story moves along at a fast pace with a good balance of action, dialogue, and internal thoughts and observations. The author, T.W. Anderson, clearly possesses a great deal of experience (or have done extensive research) on life in Texas, ranching, police work, green technology, nuclear energy, firearms, and—the most challenging to write about credibly—flying. In summary, “Will It Be Sunny Tomorrow?” by T.W. Anderson is an intense story, never a dull moment, setting the stage for a promising series featuring the “Reluctant White Knight.” The novel delivers on the promise to keep you entertained throughout. You’ll feel the hero’s frustrations and pains, as well as his triumphs and, last but not least, his love for Texas. In short, with plenty of action, suspense, and a hearty dose of good old romance, you’ll definitely enjoy it. The Legacy of J. William Fulbright

Book Description

This insightful collection of essays details the political life of one of the most prominent and gifted American statesmen of the twentieth century. From his early training in international law to his five terms in the US Senate, J. William Fulbright (1905–1995) had a profound influence on US foreign policy, and his vision for mutual understanding shaped the extraordinary exchange program bearing his name. As a senator for Arkansas for thirty years and the longest serving chair of the Senate Foreign Relations Committee, Fulbright was one of the most influential figures of United States politics. His criticism of US involvement in Vietnam exemplified his belief in the effective management of international norms by international organizations—including the United Nations, which was the subject of his first bill in Congress. Yet alongside his commitments to liberal internationalism and multilateral governance, Fulbright was a southern politician who embraced the interests of the region's conservative white population. This juxtaposition of biased and broad-minded objectives shows a divide at the center of Fulbright's vision, which still has consequences for America's global policies today. This multidimensional volume covers Fulbright's development as a national and global voice on foreign relations, as he wrestled with the political controversies of the US South during the civil rights movement, worked with and challenged executive power, and shaped the Fulbright program for educational exchange.
